Paint correction

I recently purchased a ‘90 IROC with 3900 original miles on it…I’ve drooled over this car for 25 years and finally convinced the owner to sell. This car has not ran since 2007, that’s a lot whole other topic.

my question is, what products have you all had good luck with to bring back the original shine? It is covered in an inch of dust…want to make it shine on the lift while we replace the entire fuel system.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Paint correction

Well Meguiars Ultimate Compound is a decent product when used by hand.
I would give it a good wash, then spray with an iron remover. Off the shelf Meguiars Ultimate Wheel Cleaner will work on paint, and easy to find. Then wash again. Clay bar, then use Ultimate Compound. You can then follow with Ultimate Polish then Ultimate Liquid Wax to stay in the line and they are all easy to find in stores.
Now, I will say I recently used a bottle of Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Paint Prep, also by hand, instead of Ultimate Polish, then topped with Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax, keeping it in line with that family. I found the HC Paint Prep very easy to use and got stunning results. And again, all easy to find on store shelves.
It goes without saying machine work will get the best result, but doing work by hand can also be very rewarding. A bit of work, but you'll be happy at the end
I have used quite a few products, but for hand I really enjoyed working with the Hybrid Ceramic line.

Re: Paint correction

I would be afraid to use an iron remover. 3900 miles is just too precious! That might just be me. Clay bar good to start with. They are tricky tho. there are different compounds, each has its own purpose. if you have no scratches in the paint, then perhaps a good wax is all you need. if doing by hand you can't really get into trouble tho. You may want something that is not very aggressive, more of a cleaner than a polisher. There is a good website somewhere that teaches you all the tricks.

Practice on something you don't care about first. Like the wifes car

Maybe something like one of these:.

I like this stuff for old beater daily drivers that get a lot of abuse and lots of minor scratches. eh hmm (the wifes car)

I'm about to try this for the old daily driver beater. I also use Griots orbiters.

Re: Paint correction

You're not going to do much paint correction by hand. I say give it a wash, claybar, and wax of your choice and see how it looks.
