When to wax a fresh paint job?

I sprayed single stage gloss jet black about 2 weeks ago now. I plan on wet sanding and buffing the car out this winter. For now... it's car show season! Should I just use detail spray, or fully wax the paint to protect from bird dropping and such?

If it hasn't been color-sanded & buffed yet, I probably wouldn't wax it...
