Sanding my Rims.....
I read a bunch of posts in here using that search option I've been negating to use, and after reading um I tried that sanding idea, with the 215 grit paper and what not.... though I didn't have 215... so, anyway, it looks ok on the inside of the wheel, but I wanna know how ta do it right on the outer-side, so I don't muck the wheels up if ya know what I mean. So, can anyone give me instuctions on how to do this correctly? I got the basic idea, I just need to be sure before I go sanding the hell outta my wheels.
I got stock Black 5-Stars, looks like someone nicked a curb just a bit, not enough to bend the rim, but enough to leave some scratches, so, I imagine sanding will get them out, right?

Have you checked out the tech article on this site?
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/wheels.shtml
I am not familer with the wheels you have, but from what I've seen it works wonders for Iroc rims.
Where are you in Florida? You should check out fl-thirdgen.org

Black 5 star???
Are you trying to polish these or get them ready for repainting or what?
Not sure what sanding a black wheel is going to do unless your trying to take the black paint off.

The 5-Star is an Aluminum Wheel, on some models of Camaros they came painted, not the whole wheel, but indented sections in each of the stars arms, and each of the hubs. The area in which I am working with and am sanding down is the aluminum edgeing found around the outer rim of the wheel and wraping around each of the Stars Arms. I DO need to paint the wheels, but for now, I wanna clean up the silver/aluminum edgeing. I just wanted to state that they were black so that no-one got confused and was under the impression I Was trying to sand the entire wheel. I wasn't very clear about it, so I do apologize, but the aluminum is what I'm trying to polish.

Then yes, just use the above faq.
Should have no problem. Just start with about what you have and work your way up. It takes awhile, but will come out nicely when done.

a dremel, so far, seems like a pita. I am using a dremel polishing cloth attached to a electric drill (does same thing) and it looks like it's gonna take a ton of time to do each wheel thuroughly. I need a buffing wheel of some sort that is much bigger than that puny attachment.
