Jongbloed Hood
Jongbloed Hood
I should have titled this Attn. GTA or something such as that but here goes. To anyone interested in the actual Jongbloed hood such as Andy has on his car, here's the deal. On a hunch from one of my magazines and a website I tracked down Tom McGlynn of Jongbloed wheels, who hooked me up with Bill Jongbloed who interestingly enough still has the tooling for Andy's exact hood. Now he said that he would make a limited batch of ten or twenty if we were interested, but other than that it's all up in the air. Now there is no set price as yet, though it would probably be in the $400-$450 neighborhood on a guess. Now my thought is that if nobody wishes to do some kind of a group purchase then maybe GT Auto could purchase the tooling and make their own run of the hoods, and customize where and if they feel the need for it. Consequently, I've never done a group purchase before much less set one up so anyone interested contact me and I'll send the info that I have which includes phone and fax numbers. So, anyone interested? GTA, anyone, anyone? (in the tone of Bueller, Ferris Bueller?) Take care now folks, look forward to hearing something from someone now...
New Info
Just received an e-mail from Bill, and here it is for ya'all...
Gary, These are hand laid up and funtioning cowl induction hoods. I cannot make them for under about $600. You must let me know and at that price you can have 10% for your site since we all must make a livinh. Freight will be FOB, New Mexico and crating will be about $50 each. Let me know, Bill
Now I told him it would take a while, and I'd have to see what kinds of responses we'd get. So speak folks... or vent maybe?

Dunno what the big hype is about em... I personally dont think they look good. Hell, for that money, you could get just about any other hood you wanted, probably a spoiler too!
Well folks, personally I like the way it follows the body lines off of the front bumper cover. Also, it's a cowl induction hood, ram air isn't everything.
And I have to agree that the price is a little cost prohibitive. I just figured I'd see what folks said. If Bill isn't that interested in making them, then maybe GTA ought to try and buy the jigs so they can make and sell them competitive to every one else on the market. I imagine I'm reaching for the stars on all of this though.

I want the hood but I'm not willing to shell out $600 for one....
$450 is about my limit for a hood any more than that and i'll just keep my stock hood.....besides the stock flat hood will keep THEM guessing

I'll be Damned if it ain't the guys from GTAuto, well thanks for your post and I just e-mailed you a couple times and included all the correspondence I have thus far with Bill at Jongbloed. I also just e-mailed him and told him the general concensus of this board posting in regards to his quoted price. I hope like Hell you can work something out, like I said it doesn't sound as if he, or they have any real desire to make them anymore. I'll be listening for any info, and appreciate your efforts. Take care now,
Gary

Hey, $600 is not to bad of a price for a really good hood. A lot of the other hoods out there are chopped and use poor quailty prouucts (resin glass) a lot of the hoods sent out are also in need of a lot of work before painting or installing on your car. A lot of them have raw glass on the under side. I seen some pictures of this hood and it looks pretty good. We should be able to do it for the same price as our firebird hood. I am going to see about getting his molds if not i wll keep on the one I have started.
I'm getting ready to paint my factory orange '88 IROC a metallic shade as close as I can get to '69 Hugger Orange with white stripes (of course
). I need a hood for it anyway, and since I can't another hood like on my blue car, I have decided on one of these. Something like this:
------------------
IROCnRoll
Blue502 - '86 Camaro Sport Coupe
Hugger³ - '88 IROC-Z
