Can Rear Bumper Emblems be put back on?

I'm getting my IROC repainted here the end of March. Here is the thing, I've been trying to order the Grey IROCZ emblem and 5.7 Liter Tuned Port Injection emblems for the rear bumper cover but no one has them. I tried to get my buddy who works for the local GM dealer to order the IROCZ one but he says GM is no longer making them. As for the 5.7 emblem, can't find it either. He's going to try GM tomorrow but I doubt it for some reason. Anyway I'm wondering whether or not I can take them off and put them back on. I'd really rather not have to have my paint guy mask them when he goes to sand down the bumper and then paint it. But aren't they just stickers? I just don't see how this is going to work? And it would look stupid if I left them off seeing how there is a space on the bumper for something, and then there is just nothing there. BLAH....what to do, what to do? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can reuse them if you remove them carefully. Carefully use a heat gun to soften the adhesive, but don't melt the emblem. Remove any tape or adhesive residue from the back of the emblems. Afterwards you'll probably need to use 3M emblem adhesive on the TPI emblem, since tape won't look right. That is what I did on my car. The bumper emblem you might get away with 3M double sided moulding tape, else use the 3M adhesive.

One thing about using the adhesive though... Once you place it you are done. If you get the tpi emblem in the wrong place and try to remove it, you'll probably damage the paint underneath.

Hiya,

Guess I'm not the only one with this problem. If GM is gonna discontinue something they should sell the rights to it or something so we can still get the parts somehow! The 5.7 Tuned Port Injection emblem is still available to my knowledge. I have purchased 2 of them in the past year or so without a problem from the dealer. Also Classic Industries and Year One has em still I think. They are about $25. As far as the grey IROC-Z emblem......They are all long gone. I was going to part out my car because it was involved in a front collision earlier in it's life before I bought it and I thought the problems up there couldn't be fixed correctly so I figured I could get more out of it parting it out....SOOOOOOO I sold my rear bumper emblems to a friend who was changing the red emblems on his black Iroc to the grey ones during it's repaint....Well...then I decided to keep the car and fix the problems (elongated holes in the front crossmember where the a-arms attach) so I went to get new emblems which I had no prob getting 6 months before and whamo "discontinued"

Sooooo, here's the idea I'm going to try....You can get any emblem that's still available for the back bumper piece....Then if you have access to someone who has a vinyl plotter/cutter machine get the Iroc-Z with bowtie made....paint the emblem with black basecoat, stick the decal on, then clearcoat it....It seems tedious, but it should come out very close to what the original was. Anybody like my idea??

Classic Industries and Year One both sell that stuff.

Mine came off pretty easily. I took the opportunity to repaint the TUNED PORT INJECTION emblem before putting it back on.
