Photography Tips (link)

I know I am going to catch hell for suggesting a Cobra site to GM owners. I am not biased toward any manufacturer so it doesn't matter to me. Anyways what matters is the content of this site.
I visited this site and got great tips on photographing my car and it is a great resource. I have read through it and noticed that I too had made a lot of mistakes. It's worth taking a look at it.

It may make a big difference on how people view your car on the net.

BTW, the owner of the site is very picky about copyright infringment.

Good stuff. I wish more people followed those tips, although I have to disagree about a couple of them. I get really annoyed when someone here posts a picture of their car, and there's a chunk of the car clipped off the side of the frame, or there's a huge background and their car is a tiny speck somewhere in the pic (although Roshambo makes good use of this occasionally, but he does this professionally, so there's a difference).

Roshambo(??) uses the background WITH the car....they don't take away from the car like people who shoot pics of their car at the mall with 3000 million people behind it, basically cluttered up.......Simple Pics are usally the best for amature photographers(like me, i am also an amature at spelling! )

Well I didn't post this with the intent of criticizing Roshambo on his efforts. But if the picture is taken with a lot of glare, shadows on the car, or distracting backgrounds, the it is taking away from the theme of the picture all together which is the car. A good picture speaks a thousand words. If the picture is good then people will have a different oppinion about the looks of the car. After all you are not trying to show how good the car looks with the surroundings, but instead use the surroundings, and reflections to enhance the looks of the car without taking away from the theme.

BTW, I will be retaking my car's picture.

LOL, No hard feelings here Ozzy! I checked out the site and I gotta say, I dont really agree with much the guy says, alot of it just breaks down to your own "style" know what I mean?

I think I can get away with making my car a small speck because of the contrasts between the background and the car itself (mainly just simple color contrasts) that, and it is really boring (to me anyways) if I see a pic of a car from all angles where its obvious the photographer just walked around the car hitting the shutter. *snore*

And I dont know how I got "good" at photography... I had a cheap $200 Polaroid PDC700, and my 82 Z28 (which thankfully was very photogenic, in person is was a pretty nasty car!) And I would just practice.. practice, practice. Thats the only tip I can give.. practice! That, and hold the damn camera steady!

You are right, "style" is what is all about. But when the photoprapher overlooks the position of the sun, his own reflection or shadow, excesive glare on the windows, etc., then the result is less appealing. One thing you have going for yourself is having nice backdrops. Not many of us can bragg about that.
