to Z or not to ROC

help me out here guys

i cant decide on what i want to do with the 87 Z28

i either want to retain the body, paint it a solid color, and put IROC on the side (i know you probably think thats gay cuz its a Z28, but its for my own enjoyment, its not like i am going to try to sell it as an IROC)

OR

upgrade to the 91/92 Z28 body....................................................

what color should i paint the car too?

I would put the 91-92 Z28 gfx on the car, and I would paint the car black with silver stripes. I wouldnt put the IROC sticker on the doors, that wouldnt be right. But those are my opionions.

Is that Jeff's old Z? I wanted to buy that car.

Anyway, I'd say that the solid color is ok, but just like you don't want to hear, putting the IROC decal on is lame.

I'm not gonna give you crap about the IROC-Z decal because you should do what you like .....but atleast do it RIGHT! I hate when I see like a 1986 Z28 with IROC decals to the back of the door. It screams fakeness so bad.

yes it is Jeff's old Z

i got big plans for it

looks like i'm gonna uprgrade it to the 91/92 Z28 body style...........

still gotta figure out what color to paint it...........

cuz there's no way its getting a $5000 paint job................so that means if i change the color...........your gonna be able to open the trunk and see white...

anybody else who has changed their color..........does it bother you to see a different color sometimes

lemme actually rephrase that.........there's no way i can spend $5000 on a paintjob.........for me to do that is not realistic..........cuz i know some of you are going to haggle me cuz i am going to go to maaco, but i just have to say then, though shnikes guys............................i had my 1991 RS done there and they did a fantastic job.......and its still in one peice two years later...................EVERYONE compliments the 1991, and then i tell them where i got the paint job and they think i'm smoking crack..............oh well, thats not MY problem...................its not like i have to decide now, but.....i want to have a piece of mind with what i am gonna do with the outside of the car...........for the power i know EXACTLY what is gonna be done................i found new 383 shortblocks for like $1500...........then its gonna get a T56...............then the rear end is gonna be changed to a 4.10, and if i can save enough money.......the new centrifugal carburetor supercharger......................i'm also gonna basically gut the interior and put in racing seats with a rollcage and 5 point harnesses.................i'm basically gonna make it up to myself for buying a V6 as my first camaro.........i'm truly going all out with this one

If it were me I'd keep the stock appearance as much as possible. Everyone has an Iroc or a 91-92 Z28, or a monotone RS. How many Z28's do you see with the silver/gold gfx, 15" wheels, and stripes? The only difference really is the appearance of the car, the performance would be the same. Iroc's, Z28's, and RS's get really old when they're all the same. Enjoy the car for what it is, not what it could be... in this case you'd be taking a more unique car and you'd be making it just like everyone elses.

a nice silver would be sharp.....i wouldn't go with black only because it's overdone for 3rdgens. you should do whatever you like, but i would do something subtle yet different enough to stand out as unique.

It looks horrible. I've seen it before, and it just screams, "CHEAP". When you do one thing half-assed, it's a damned good indicator that you do everything else half-assed too. If I saw a car painted that cheaply, I would not even consider buying it because I would immediately assume that everything else was done with the same attention to detail.

There's a lot you can do with white, and no matter what you do with it, it'll look better than any other color with white jams and engine bay.

thats exactly what i'm afraid of jim

i dont have the means for an expensive paint job right now...
maybe i will do eveything else first and see how i am doing at my job next year......

OR.......

i can take a vo-tech class in auto body and paint the car myself........................

i'm kinda liking that last idea cuz then i can truly say i did EVEYTHING myself

oh yeah, sorry if i seem crabby at times, i'm just a strange person

i didn't even notice that part about seeing different colors.......my good *** man.

please don't change the color if your going to see a different color in the door jambs! that definately wouldn't be going all out like your stating. you don't have to spend 5000 just to have a good paintjob that's a different color. you just can't get away with it for under a grand.

that would be terrible to have a car like that.

White with orange stripes sounds good, it sure beats another color with white door jambs.

If you put Iroc-Z decals on it and you have installed 91-92 GFX, I would say that would be rather stupid . You know the reason.

But if you left the stock GFX on and put Iroc stickers on it for your enjoyment thats fine. I mean as long as you do not try to tell people its an IROC-Z, and like you said you will not sell it as an iroc, so I thinks this is fine.

Althought alot of people like myself hate posser rice cars with Type R everywheres, alot of people would say your a posser. But personally It would look good with the stock Z look.

ummmm i was going to either make the car IROC style
or 91/92 Z28 style not both

but i think i am going to do this:

white
orange stripes
stock hood louvers
88-90 IROC style wheels

i suppose that should pass the test
