I just got my back hatch tinted and the guy said he could not tint all the way to the top of the hatch because of the shade thing on top of the hatch. you know those those little stripes attached to the window.
anyway is there any solution to this? i was thinking of doing two things to cover it up
1. put one of those chevy-bowtie front windsheid decals over it (if it fits...)
2. get one of those black plastic "bug guards" but the prob with that is I have no idea where to get one.

any ideas?

It's funny that the tint guy couldn't tint the top portion of the glass. When I bought my car, the tint was only half way up thru those little stripes. I just trimed the tint back to the first stripe and removed the excess. It looks okay to me.

 

I plan on painting over the stripes with black paint on the inside.
This will be above my view, so it I wont have a blind spot. Then I will tint the rest of the hatch.

I think this will work and look good. Has anyone else tried this?

 

I watched the tint guy do it on my '88. He used a heat gun on the part with the stripes. That was 4 years ago (In AZ heat too) and the tint still looks perfect.

 

Same here. Tint all the way up to edge of the hatch, no problems thus far (3 or so years and counting).

 

My tint goes to the top no problems, I also have one of those "bug gards" it is called a solor wing made by GTS. I got mine at NAPA for $100. If they ask you if you have a high mount 3rd brake light say no, just less confusing that way.

Yeah man, he is F'in ya. I know a few dudes with 3rd Gens who have it tinted all the way up. He prolly was just lay and didnt want to do it. Either take it back to him and Scream your head off....or just find another place. Most shops love to finish up work of other peole just cuz it gives them braggin rights, " XXX shop cant do tint on 3rd gens just ask XXX, we do it all" if you get my drift. But whut ever you do, dont put those bug sheild on. something about them dont settle with me, but if you do....show pics

 

i thought about painting it but the prob with that is on the inside the the little "shade" stripes are black but on the out side of the car they are grey. so I would now have black and grey stripes on the top of the hatch.
the prob with going back to the guy is that I nave got a receipt from him. the reason is i put 20% all around the car. and in VA it's 35% on the back and 50% on the sides. he did it for me but, no receipt, if you catch my drift.....he didn't charge me extra.
anyway i think i am going to try one of those solar wings. if gts still makes them. any one have a pic of a car with a decal on the top of the hatch? just so i know what they would look like.
