project polish rims

Welp im gonna atempt to polish my 92 rims heres the plan
clear coat removal
220grit
400
600 wet or with steel wool
maybe 1500
tripoli
white rouge
polish
no clear coat
I would post a pic but I cant figure out how to shrink it enough.
Btw can someone tell me when i know to stop sanding with each type?

there is a machined ridge in the face of the rim. Your goal with the 220 grit is to grind off that ridge, and get the face of the rim smooth and flat. I'd recommend a sander or something, going by hand on that will take some time.

Then the high # grit papers are used to get the scratches of the lower grits out, and get an even smoother face to the rim. By the time you hit 600, the face of the rim should have no roughness to it, and there should be virtually no visible scratches or sanding marks whatsoever.

anything above 600, and the rim should be glass smooth and should have some shine to it.
