I've been debating over the past few weeks on whether to get my rear window replaced (plastic window... it's a 'vert) or to just stick it out until next spring. As most plastic windows do, it's gotten fogged over with age, to the point where you can no longer see thru it. I had noticed, over the past few months, that when it rained I could see out the window just fine.. wasn't sure why, I just thought it was weird. Started thinking about it the other day, and for sh*ts and giggles figured I'd put something on there to simulate the 'wet' appearance... Armor All was the closest thing on had. Lo and behold, after a good cleaning and armor- all-ing, the window was pretty much clear again! I'm absolutely stunned! A few days in direct sunlight have done nothing to diminish the clarity of the window.. we'll see what happens after a few weeks. Hell, it can't get any worse... it went from opaque to nearly transparent... worst thing that could happen is I can't see out of it again. Maybe this will enable me to put off the replacement for a season.... Just thought I'd share, if any of you 'vert owners are having the same problem.

 

I'll have to keep that in mind. Right now rear window is still clear but it is just a matter of time before it clouds. Keep us posted on how long the armor all treatment lasts. Just curious if you had put the top down since the treatment and what effect it had on the window

 

Put the top down a couple of times per day, for 15-20 minutes at a stretch... no effect thus far.... I'm keepin' my eye on it tho!

 

The fogginess is from fine scratches, and the methods you described make it appear clear again because they're "filling" in the scratches. Of course, water, oil, etc, doesn't have the same refraction properties as the plastic, so it won't be crystal clear. Going along that route, polishing the plastic down 'til the scratches are out (or evened) "should" restore the original clearness; in theory. I wouldn't really know how to go about doing that or what to use, though. Could maybe do a test spot with some plastic compound and a round cotton bob on a drill? My window isn't at that point yet, but I may end up with that problem eventually.

 

I use Black Majic on my front parking lamps. It gets them all nice n clean for while. I also use it on my Tail lights give them a nice shine.
