Hey Redraif-

I thought I would try and come clean with this

The comments that I have made about your car were obviously out of line (you remember the post I am talking about, I'm sure) I used them I guess as a way to emphasize my point. I was going over your car a second time yesterday and came to the conclusion that I shouldnt have come across the way I did.

While I still have many of the same feelings about your exterior mods as I previously felt, I now know that the appearance of your is portrayed wrong in your pictures. For example, in this picture that I found, you can see really how nice the car's red really is.

However most of the pictures have a hazy effect that is detrimental to the look of the car. This is not your fault by any means whatsoever.

Other examples of better quality pictures revealing the real colors of your car are

http://images.cardomain.com/installs...01_36_full.jpg
http://images.cardomain.com/installs...01_41_full.jpg

I also saw the pictures of the various shows you have entered your car in. I can see that you take a lot of pride in your work and stand by it. this picture is a killer shot of your car, I only wish the color was as nice as the angle

http://images.cardomain.com/installs...1_103_full.jpg

So I guess what I am trying to say is that my opinions on the way you have modeled your car have clouded my reasoning as to the overall outcome of your car. While I will not agree with you on the red tint, windshield banner, or the fonrt spoiler I will concede to tell you that you have a very well taken care of thirdgen, and you obviously deserve the numerous placements in the shows that you have. I should have held back my comments, but alas, what is done is done and I cannot change that.

Whilst I wish your tastes were more like my own, I apologize for any anger I have caused you.

Yeah, I remember. The infamous "clear turn signal post". I also saw the post on 3rdgen you started a few weeks prior.

Strangely enough I understand your point about the pictures. Some of it is due to the fact that I'm not a prof. photographer. Most sadly, is the lack of good scanning equipment and programs. The pics you like the best are shots that a very good friend of mine scanned for me before he went overseas. He's in the Army. He is excellent at scanning. He has some of the best programs and knows how to use them. He is somehow able to get the mb down w/o sacraficing the quaility or size of the pic.

Here is the site he made for me
www.mindspring.com/~shaag
I'm sure you can see how much better all the pics on this site look. Some were not great shots, but the haziness/blury effect you mentioned is not there in most of his scans.

I have tried to take what I have read about car photography and use it to get good quaility shots. Its not that easy when you shoot, develop, scan, and then finally see how the product comes across. The lighting and angles are so tricky. I personally love the shots taken in the bright daylight. It makes the colors so vibrant. Everywhere I read, they say no,no,no. Take it at dusk or dawn, or when its overcast. Take it from the level of the car. Shesh.

I also saw the pictures of the various shows you have entered your car in. I can see that you take a lot of pride in your work and stand by it. this picture is a killer shot of your car, I only wish the color was as nice as the angle

http://images.cardomain.com/installs...1_103_full.jpg
I loved the shot too. I was hoping it would have come out better with the sunset in the background, but it overwhelmed the shot. And the color of the car did not come through.

I accept the apology. I know its never something that is easy to do. Especially when its over something that gets so heated so easily. What one person sees as an opinion, someone else sees as an attack. I hope I never said anything too out of line to you. If I was out of line at any time I appologize.

Hey let me know what other angles you like. I will try to take more shots that way and experiment with the light and time of day.

Felt like sharing some more.

Alot of my mods were done to set the car apart from a stock car. And since I show mostly with imports, I had to compete with their mods. Hence the ***** feel most of you get from the car. The biggest thing I have tried to do is take a car with hardly any available mods and make my own.

I wanted to make something that wouldn't be Passé in a few months or years. It seems as soon as one look is accepted, there is another that sweeps through. TRENDS: that what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to avoid them as much as I can. First it was blackouts, then it was covers with cut outs, then clear lens, now its euros. Its just like clothes, in one day, out the next.

Heck look at neons. They were the big thing when I was in high school. The craze passed and now its back bigger than before. Thats why I want candy apple red paint. Its gorgeous and a classic. It will never date the car like a cameleon paint or paint schemes will. I want undateable mods. Things no one has seen before, stuff thats not mainstream so to speak, and don't exist. I wanted something that people could not go to a parts store and duplicate.

To show how unnoticeible my mods can be, to people other than you guys...
Quick story for you. I went to a Whitlee show this past weekend. I got first in the Full custom Firebird Class. I went to sign up and they had to inspect the car to decide what catagory to put the car in. The guy looked at the car & came back. He said there were 8 mods. The car was Semi custom. A friend heard him and said no way. They took the head guy out there. He said full custom. He then used the car as a training device for the new guys. They stopped counting at 25 mods, since 15 was custom.

They were not 3rd gen guys and were clueless. Thats why some of my mods are so obvious, and they still miss them. The guy never noticed the headlights or spoilers. He must have been blind. To people who aren't into 3rd gens the car is so subtle they miss things.

And alot of what I do is things that guys wouldn't do or don't notice. And since they are the judges, there you go. In fact the best judging I ever got was from a girl. She did not know it was my car, but she loved the small details. I was one point off from best domestic. A newer car beat me because he had better paint.

Ok I'll shut up now.

How far do you travel for shows? Do you go out of state or just stay in your state? If you ever go out of your state, do you come to Kansas? I would love to see your car in person.

Only reason I would think twice about asking you about the car is that.... over the many times I've appraoched the woman standing next to the car, or sitting, very few times..... in fact, lets mark that as NO TIMES, has she ever been the one who knew anything about it. And I always looked like an ***, cause the guys or guy that DID work on it is sitting 3 feet away with a beer, BUT! I've always been one to ask the women (Just cause I pray to ***, that someday I'll meet a girl that will be able to come out and help me work on the car, instead of wondering why I have no money to spend on her! Please g0d make another one of these people! )

Don't know that I'll go that far. At least not with the 2.8 in there. Don't really trust it for long trips. And I don't plan on trailering it anywhere either. I hate trailered cars.

I do plan on going to Pigeon Forge, TN later this year. They have a big show up there June 28th-30th. I went last year with some buddies. The car showed well and we had a blast. So the plan is to go again.

I guess that's true. As many shows as I have been to, there have only been a handful of cars that were owned by girls. And the ones that were, the boyfriends or fathers did the work. Don't give up though. There are a few of us out there.

My boyfriend thinks its so cool that he can get me gifts that are for my car. It makes birthdays much easier. We go to junkyards together and everything. Heck he and I pulled a 500ci Caddy engine out of a 72 Eldorado a few monthes back. Its for my Scout II. He never has to worry about me being jeaolus that he spends so much time on cars, cause I'm right there working too.

Actually, I just saw the pics and I love the car. It looks good. I like how the there is that red theme throughout the car. Do cops ever hassle you about the red window tint?

Thanks,

I had a red car and decided why not go with it. It always bugged me that the car was red with a grey interior. I never pegged the 2 colors as having gone together. I prefer red and black. And why not make it more interesting by bringing the body color to the inside as well.

About the tint. Well, the cops bugged me at first, but I am technically exempt from the tint laws because of my migraines. I have had documented problems with my eyes related to migraines since I was 8. I have had to show the form from the state patrol once or twice, but I think all the local cops know the car now and they don't mind it. Heck I drove to FL for a show and no cops even seemed to notice.

People actually tell me I should have the gfx the same color as the body. But that to me would be too much red. Infact, I decided to go with the black gfx to contrast all the red. I have even painted the engine compartment black so that you can actually see a contrast b/w red and black. With all the red in there, things were getting swallowed in the sea of red.

Another thing that brings out the red is the tint. Well, the tint is a bit bold. It mostly depends on the lighting. Strangely, at times, the tint has looked black. Then other times it can produce a red wash out, esp. in pics. It has a bit of an Chameleon effect. I have actually had judges at shows that did not notice the red tint. Weird, eh?

It has been the plan for 5 years to get a V-8, but until I had the means to do it myself it was not going to happen. I did not have the experience or know anyone, besides a shop, who had the experience to install an 8. There was no way I would pay a mechanic $5000+ for a stock V-8 swap. For that money and a little time I could do it and have something that would run. So I waited on the engine and did the body first. With the body, I could do 95% of the work and only pay a little at a time.

Well the time has come, the V-8 will be in by the end of the year. My boyfreind is going to teach me everything as we go.

So you might be able to say its rice because it looks aggresive and only has a 6, but by the end of the year the car is going to haul.

Yeah, it will be a 350. Not sure what we are going to do to it yet. It definately won't be stock. Still playing around with which engine to chose. I want it to be different. But I guess that's obvious by the looks of the car.

Drag racing

Uuuuggghhhh... I know, but I had to bring it back from the dead for a related comment. I was surprised it was still around. Only on page 4.

I was at the drag strip this past weekend for the GAFBA Shootout in Reynolds, GA. I decided ran my car in the brackets. I ended up with 2nd. I lost to a high School Champion Bracket racer. All and all it was not bad for my first time bracket racing and it was only my 2nd time at the track.

Well, on to my "odd thing" comment. After the race was over. My boyfriend and I were both standing by the car. A guy walks up and congradulates him on a good race. Later my boyfriend told me that other people kept coming up to him congradulating him on the race & were asking ? about the car. I thought most of the people in my club (GAFBA) knew I was a girl and that RAIF was my car.

The funny part is that the whole time I was racing they were using "red riding hood" VS. "the big bad wolf". You would think that would have clued the people in that a girl was driving.

Oh well just thought it was interesting how the trend passes to the dragstrip too.

Shannon,
It was a pleasure to meet you this past weekend. You did very well at the track, maybe slow to others, but defiantely consistant.
As for people not getting a clue about who was driving the car or who was little red ridding hood, well look at the club you belong to. They be sort of stuck on themselves a bit.

I have noticed I'm the often ignored part of the club. I'm a girl, I have a 3rd gen, its a 2.8, and I've modded the looks. Can't get much worse than that. Its like I'm the "anti-fbody", the little red devil.

Sadly, I don't think most of them realize how long I have had this car. I'm totally pro-fbody. I will never let go of mine. People swear that it will be buried with me when I die.

This is totally irrelevant to the "conversation" or the title post, but I'm new here and haven't had a chance to say this yet: The headlight mod is bad as hell.

Well thank you!

Now that I have had some time to use them...I can say they work quite well. They light as well as the stock lights. The cool thig is that I can adjust th brights to cover more area than the stock lights. Best of all, so far no cops have hasseled me. I have been rolling with them since Mid March and I have seen quite a few cops since then. The way I drive to work I go close by 4 police stations. I see at least 10 cops a day.

I will start with the fact that a female pays closer attition to detail than a male. Ask any body man. Second the mods are interesting, and the headlights are a very good and useable. The big mods are nice, but it is the little things that make it stand out. I am sure nobody has noticed the fact that the black rubber pads in the front and rear bumper have been taken out and modded. And yes a beautiful young lady next to a heavily modded car, for me it would be a dream, and one that I think would be to good to come true. Besides a male/female that would spend that much time and effort in a car should get the respect of anybody that loves cars. Reguardless of what they might think of it. Looks great and please keep us informed on the new mods. Just don't make that motor to powerful, I would hate to see you drag your tips at the line!!!

It won't be tip dragging fast, but it won't be a stock V-8 either. It will definately get some respect though. Trying for mid 12s on motor alone.

I guess the moderator is biased against males cause i had a really cool and funny post called "how to make a rice mobile" and it got locked, since redraid is a female thats why u let her get off the hook eh..... [/QUOTE]

Well concidering my post was not intended to be about riced out cars... Some may have wanted to make it that. Those who think anything different is rice, ergo my car.

Ok, deja vu, didn't I say all this earlier in this thread.

The post was me asking a simple question about men's attitudes toward women showing cars that they have modded. It was not supposed to have anything to do with how my car is modded or whether anyone likes it or not, but some people just have to make trouble.

Funny how that always seems to happen when I post in any thread.

Hey red!

Waszup!!

I commend you on the work you've done to your car.
A little more red than I like, but I would really like to see the car
in person to really appreciate it.
People of this site, I would like to add this note, and before I do I would like to state that I am not saying without stating that I also have been guilty.

I would like to say to the people of this site, and I am sure that you should all agree. When you post a message or reply, think about what you are saying, before you say it.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
How would you like it if you put pictures of your car up, and people responded with Ugly, and disgusting comments.
It would hurt your feelings, especially if you had a lot of time and hard work put into your car.
Cmon guys.. face it.. you fix up your cars for "YOU" but you know you don't just do it for ONLY YOU. If there wasn't another face on the earth but your own, what would be the point in making your car look beautiful. You like everyone else, hopes that others will find the attractiveness in your car that you do.
When you get up and comb your hair nice, and put on nice matching clothes, it's not to please just yourself. Do you like it when you spend 3 hours getting ready for a evening out, and someone tells you you look like someting the cat drug across the front yard????

I have been guilty too of slamming on the "Import" cars as many people on this site are probably aware of.
I personally dislike Imports and generally dislike the class of people that find interest in them.

However, I have made it a point to think more deeply about what I post and reply, and if I don't like something and feel the need to voice that, then I will atleast have some respect and dignity about the way I say it.
These rude, slamming comments were undeserved.
I guess I am saying this because I find that people (INCLUDING MYSELF) have been choosing to flame people to quick lately. I guess I'm just hoping that by saying this.. maybe some of you will be awakened as I have to the need to be a little more compassionate to people.
Just my thoughts.....

Mark

I have a couple friends with imports and I tell that joke to
them.. trust me.. they have some good ones back on our
cars too.. it's all in fun.. but some of the flame-wars on here
actually get serious.. I have actually seen threats of people
wanting to meet up and duke it out.. now thats pretty harsh..
almost sickening considereing were all sposed to be happy
here that we are all third gen dudes.,

I had read where some people on another site were really hoping my car would get totalled. That they would love to see it off the road and would personally love to part it out. I guess to insure I could never reassemble it. But there is now way that will happen. The car might get totalled one day, but it would never get parted out. I would keep it, all of it. I've had it too long to give it up, ever. I have had the car for 13 years and don't plan on ever giving it up.

Meet up and fight over a car. Guess its the girl in me, but that's harsh. Now I catch someone messing with my car and a butt whipping will comence...

you are not the only girl that gets this sh*t

I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW SHANNON THAT YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY GIRL THAT GETS PUT THROUGH THE GIRLS CAN'T HAVE NICE CARS AND KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEM NICE BULL- ****! I MYSELF HAVE A 92 TRANS AM (GREEN MET) WITH THE RAM AIR HOOD AND TO MANY MODS TO GET INTO RIGHT NOW ALONG WITH NOS AND THE LITTLE GOODIES AND I CAN'T GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT STRANGE LOOKS WHEN I GET OUT OF MY CAR. I LEFT WORK LAST WEEK AND I HEARD A LITTLE IDIOT SAY NOW I HAVE SEEN IT ALL THAT CHICK CAN'T OWN THAT CAR. THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF. I DID ALOT TO MY CAR WITH SOME HELP FROM VARIOUS PEOPLE( NEW MOTOR NEW TRANS BOOSTED UP FROM A 5 SPEED TO A 6 SPEED) AND I HAD PART IN EVERYTHING THAT WAS DONE. ME AND MY BOYFRIEND WERE OUT LAST WEEKEND AND SOME ***** IN A SLOWSTANG CAME UP TO MY CAR AND ASKED MY BOYFRIEND IF HE WANTED TO RACE. HE SAID THAT IT WAS MY CAR AND TO ASK ME. THE GUY LAUGHED. THOUGHT MY B/F WAS KIDDING OR SOMETHING THEN FINALLY TURNED TO ME AND ASKED IF I WANTED TO RUN IT. SO ANYHOW I JUST THOUGHT THAT WITH ALL THE NEG. POSTS THAT CAME BACK TO YOU I WOULD LIKE TO POST AND TELL YOU THAT I REALLY LIKE WHAT EFFORT YOU PUT INTO YOUR CAR. IT SHOWS HOW IMPORTANT YOUR CAR IS TO YOU.JUST LIKE MINE. DON'T LET THE GUYS **** YOU OFF. YOU KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU ARE DOING GREAT THINGS WITH YOUR CAR. IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY THAT IS ALL THAT COUNTS.

THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY-- I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU. IT WOULD BE NICE TO TALK TO A GIRL THAT KNOWS HOW I FEEL

Bluebird:)

Hey Bluebird I think that I have your car as my screensaver. I really like it. It is a nice looking car. I love the color.

Anyhow, back to the point-don't let anyone tell you what you sould do to your car(or shouldn't do for that matter) if they don't pay for the stuff then it is none of their concern.

Nikki: Hey, nice to know there are a few more of us girls around. Not to many on the board. Shoot me a line sometime. redraif@yahoo.com It would be great to chat w/ another girl.

So far, I have not been challenged to a race, but that could be because I'm a girl and they think its all a big joke. Who knows? Though I'm glad I haven't been asked. They would surely stomp the V-6. Just wait till I get the 8 in.

I do get the weird looks when I get out of the car. Its like guys do a double take. They have this notion of what they think should step out of the car, but then I get out. Oddly, word seems to have spread here locally. My boyfriend works at a car performance shop and is amazed how many people know my car. They will be talking and he will mention the red firebird with red tint and they have seen it. He says most of them know its a blond girl who owns it. Must be going to all those shows.

So far, in person, I have not ever overheard any negative comments directed toward me or my car. I just hate the cold shoulders or brush offs. Its like I'm telling this tall tale that I work on my car. They look at me like:
"Ok, sure you installed the ground effects and block sanded your hood". "Oh and like a girl knows how to wire a stereo system that hits". "I just bet you go to junkyards and pull your own parts". "Oh yeah, like the headlight conversion and clear lens were designed by you too".
I feel I have to rig something right there to show that I really can do the work.

I love it when you prove someone wrong, but they won't back down. I had a GA State Patrol officer jump on me at the show this past weekend. He had someone pulled over and I passed on the way to the show. I noticed he looked at it in the "I'm going to get you" stare as I passed. Well, I drove up to the show, registered and then parked.

About 20 min later this GSP car pulls into the show. The cop gets out points at me and the gate guy lets him walk in. He storms over to me and my car. My boyfriend, his son, Chris87TA350 from here, and about 15 people from a car club I met up with were all standing there. The cop asks if I drove the car here. I said yes. He said if he saw it on the road after the car show he would have it impounded. I asked why. He said the window tint and the windshield vinyl. So I pulled out my permission slip. He had the nerve to say it did not cover my tint because it was mirrored. I said yes it did. I told him I personally took it as it was to the GA State Patrol headquarters and had it inspected with this tint and vinyl and they approved it. He decided to argue with me about it and he had the tint exemption in his hand. Then he asked what was my medical reason. I said migraines. He comes back with this smart alec "get better sunglasses". He tosses the paperwork back at me and storms off saying he will still impound the car if he sees it and then I can see if my paperwork covers my tint.

I could not believe he was hasseling me on private property over stuff I had actually researched and had handled correctly. He was a few seconds from getting escourted off the property by my boyfriend. Though it was so funny to show a punk cop up in front of almost 20 witnesses. Some people and their power trips. He was proven wrong and still had to push it. Most cops are super nice once I give them the paperwork. We usually stand around and BS for a while. Well, he was not around when I left. Though I will more that likely drive with my windows down when I go thru Conyers again.

Well felt like sharing another story when I replied.

For the love of the Niche Serpant, of course...

Only complete set left that Salesco could locate after they were disco-ed. Believe me 5 to 4 was not my first choice, but I had to run spacers no matter what I did, so I said why not. Up the lug size and they will handle the difference. Lifetime guarentee on the billet spacers, so you can't go wrong.

Most people don't even notice the lug change. I impressed you did.
