Noticed and odd thing...
By now most of you know I'm female and I show my car.
So my point...I noticed and odd thing about people at shows & around town.
I go to shows by myself quite a bit and guys will come and check the car out. Most just look around for a while and leave, very few ask me anything. I'll hear the "wow look at that" and "I wonder how they did that". Now considering I'm the only one sitting by the car or I'm cleaning, its pretty obvious its my car.
Now if my boyfriend is with me, people ask him all kinds of questions. He will have 2 or 3 people asking him stuff at a time, but they just ask him not me. Weird. He will even tell them it is my car and I have done all the work, so I'm the one to ask. Again, I'm right there, sometimes even cleaning. And they will not ask me anything. But they will tell him what they like or ask how did I do that.
Now this is not so true of girls. Most are there with their boyfriends and don't really care about cars, but still they will talk to me. They usually make a beeline to my car when they see it. They come to me with questions, not him. They always tell me they love the car and would love to have a car like it. Older woman even like the car. They really notice and compliment the little touches I have done.
Now I hear guys say woman don't notice 3rd gens. That they like imports better. Where are you guys hiding, anyway?
Guys clam up around me...What's the deal. Do they think there's no way I could have done the work, so why ask me? It must have been my boyfriend who did the work for me?
Just want to see what you think.

Yeah, if you're attractive, that plays a huge role....take a good-looking girl, working/who has worked on a vehicle that the person also has...well, I'd say it's a bit intimidating, possibly..? Could possibly be that some guys generally just see females at shows and assume that they're there to either model or some other non-carowner related thing....or, possibly, it's just difficult for them to walk up to you with a huge b0ner, as you're two dreams come true at once..?
Ok, so maybe the last one was uncalled for....

not to be rude or anything, but camaro's and f-birds are supposed to look stock. The stockier, the better, thats just the way it is.
I have no objections with what you did to your f-bird because it's not mine. but thats something i would never do.
a reason why guys won't go up to you and ask you questions is:
my no.1 answer:
They think girls are just to dumb to pull off such a feat, and when they see your man there and your cleaning your car they think to themselves: look at that guy, he even has his girl cleaning his car for him, what a pimp! "remember its just what I assume some people would think"
2. If you'r a hottie them they may be little wussies and not want to go ask you anything, or your man scares them away.
i have more reasons but im to tired to type lol.

Hey Redraif - don't let the pathetic non-spelling, poor grammar, forgot-what-punctuation-is, seventh grade edumacated, kindergarten mannered flamers get you down. Especially retarded fvcks that say any car is "supposed to look stock" - utter fvcking rubbish. Do what you like to your car and enjoy it, you are the only one that really matters in the end; not some faceless as<x>sclown on the internet. Especially faceless as<x>sclowns that claim to "not want to be rude or anything" and then come off rude.
This board is getting friggin lame with more and more idiots like these voicing "fact" or "truth" that is nothing but another sodomized opinion. More and more idiots that cry "rice" when something different that appeals to the owner is done to a Camaro or Trans Am. Get over it you morons, these cars are a dime a dozen. If YOU "wannabe" like the other billion cars on the road - well, you can sit safe and secure in your anonymity, or rather your OBSCURITY. Sit at home and wet yourself when you consider modding your car to look the slightest bit different. You like your car "stock"? Great. Good for you. Reach over and pat yourself on the back. Shake your hand. Feel yourself up. Give yourself a hummer. Finally, go f*ck yourself. Now get over it and realize that some DON'T, and they are entitled to their opinion - just like you are.
{/rantmode}
As for an answer to your question, Redraif - It's just not the norm. Women generally don't take an interest in this type of thing, that's all - you're kind of a "pioneer" I guess you could say. Judging from the responses here, it's really no wonder why.
By the way, it's a known rule that if you're a woman on a male dominated message board that you have to post pix of yourself. More of a guideline than a rule really. Actually it's just a thought. Well, kind of an idea I just had. Never mind.

I think you did an amazing job with your car. I usually like the more stock look on the exterior... but yours looks great! With the exception of the shifter ****, i love what you've done on the interior. you really made the dash look great. oh, and like every other guy on this post, I too will ask that you post a picture of yourself! just interested in seeing what a 3rd gen loving girl looks like.
Mr. Orono, you are not worth the time or the effort. People who post pics are gonna get a response. It's really that simple. She's obviously delighted with her car so I ain't gonna shoot it down with the usual.i.e. "What did you do!" or "your car is uuugly" as we often see on this website.
My message was simple and to the point...and definitely not as big a deal as you're making it.
Just chill bro, she doesn't like you.

well.....
ill give you some respect for the shear amount of time you had to put into what you did to your car. The job looks very custom, certainly not a hack job. And another thing! what is this board for? A bunch of yess men telling anybody how "awesome" their car looks? NO the purpose of this board is to get opinions about apearence. Everyone has different opinions, negative or positive, they are all valid. That being said.... I need to run to the bathroom now i think im goning to lose my lunch.
I think I will stick to the fact that the vast majority of women like importish looking cars. This just suports that argument.

As to the guy who said are cars are supposed to be stock, that's kind of narrow minded. Modifying anything wouldn't be keeping it stock, and I know the weak motor, exhaust are always changed. Tint, and blackouts help a lot, but personally it can go overboard, but to say they're supposed to stay stock is absurd.

Yeah I don't think u want to hear my opnion either then. LoL. But I gotta give ya respect for putting much effort into ur ride, but that thing is just not my kinda taste I guess. WAYYYY to much Red and reminds of a certain type of racer breed...thats all I will say. but again, the effort shows.
Your car looks pretty good. I aint in love with it our anything but you put a lot of time, and work in it and it shows, and it is a clean looking car, good job.
I think the main thing with guys not coming up to you and talking to you about your car is just the fact girls that like to work on cars or know anything about cars is like trying to find a needle in the hay stack. Its not something ya see often. And yeah if a guy see another guy by the car, more then likely they will think it must be his car, no matter if you are wiping it down or sitting next to it. After they ask your boy friend about the car and he send them to you, just talk to their GF!! That will teach us men a lesson.
Keep up the good hard work

Shannon, you're a very pretty woman. Truthfully i can't see why guys wouldn't talk to you at car shows
I dn't know many girls who are willing to put that much effort and time into their cars.Maybe that's why they don't ask you many questions You've done a good job, Maybe not the way everyone else would have, but it's differrent and that makes it stand out

Steve "Modded and love it" Cauffiel you rock. You have such a way of putting things. I love it when you post. Your car looks good so far. Keep me posted. I'd love to see more of it.
For some of you: This was not a harp on my car post. I was curious to hear what you thought about my question.
But since you you brought it up:
My mods: stupid or not, ***** or not, import or not... provided the difference & responces I sought. I personally really like the look and when I get the car repainted and new front gfx piece, I will still keep the spoilers, though I know 90% of you hate them.
For those of you who have complimented my car thank you. For those who at least see the work I have put in thank you as well:
I really appreciate you complimenting me on my workmanship.
I have found it very difficult to hand make or modify so many items on this car. I have had to learn to do and create things myself as I went along. And I tell you its not easy. Try to get a guy to take you seriously when you ask how this or that machine works, or what I need to make this or that. Most people think I'm nutz. Honestly, I have really put all of myself into this project. Doing or making what others say is impossible, too hard, or not available really gives me a good feeling. Gives me much more confidence to face the day.
In the end, whether others like my ideas or not, I can look at it and I'm satisfied.

I think I will stick to the fact that the vast majority of women like importish looking cars. This just suports that argument.
Customizing has been going on for so many more years than the imports have been the car of choice to mod. Women simply like something that is different or modded. Something that shows the owner cares and is willing to put in the extra effort. And yes they like the attention the cars get. Right now the imports are the new thing to customize so they get the attention. That's why women seem to like the importish look. Its the popular thing to mod. And they are everywhere. Women like modded cars. 2+2=4. It has nothing to do with an importish look.

I think you have a very well planned and modded car. I would suggest you look at the Fiero 2.8 plenum I like the more solid red plenum than the partial, IMO. Also I saw how hard it was to take pics of the neons. I tried to improve them in photoshop but I could only make them worse. I would like to see some pics of the dash lights if you could. But to all those complaining that things should be stock. If that were true then wouldn't keeping the whole car stock make more sense than just the body? If you like things only stock. BTW redraif I love the look of the ram air hood.

Hey, I just saw my first red plenum a few weeks back at the junk yard. I thought about it, but decided instead to polish the unpainted part. I have so much red as it is, so I thought that might brighten things up. Gonna get some shots up soon of the improved compartment.
Thanks for the attempt on the neons. I have some 800 speed film at home. I'm going to try to use it and adjust the camera settings. We will see this weekend.
Yeah, its amazing how under the hood anything goes...

Car looks good, maybe most of the guys are ricers at the shows and know their cars couldnt look that good ? IMO it needs different rims tho.......
Hey 87_Camaro, who the hell died and made you "*** of all thats great." Why don't you just mind your own freakin business. Who the hell cares if you think something looks better "stockier" or with less mods or with pink and purple polka dots. No one asked you.

Well I personally like the stock look of my Bird but as long as you drive a third gen and not a rice you ok by me. You look like a person that would be driving a Mercedes or a BMW. What got you into Firebirds?

Yeah I know how you feel. There are lots of women here in Hawaii that race and mod their own cars (both domestic and import) but dont get any respect. It is a definate stereotype that women dont work on cars so thats prolly why nobody asks you questions or talks to you at the shows. Some of the women here started their own 'Chick Club' called GirlieGirlRacers or something like that and they have cruzes and races for women only. They also run stickers so everyone knows they are women and into cars. So I guess these days they are getting more respect. For me personally, it dosnt matter when it comes to cars... don't matter if its a guy or a girl modding it, if they are into modding cars they are a friend of mine.
And yeah I said MODDING cars not LEAVING THEM STOCK!!! hahahhaha j/p

ok... i would like to apologize..... It is very clear that she was not asking for an opinion of her car. I was just getting caught all this not voicing your opinion stuff. once again.... sorry i didnt mean to offend anyone.
It doesnt apply in this case, but if somebody asks for an opinion on something, I will give my honest opinion on it. I hope I will get some honest opinions of my car when i get some new pics up this summer wether they r negative or positive.

Well, I'm not sure really. I have always loved them. Maybe it's all those years or watching Knight Rider.
Seriously, It was the only car I could look at over and over and never get tired of. Sure I modded it, but it was stock for 10 years before that. I just wanted to freshen up the look. The amazing thing is that my dad, under the wise guidence of my mother, got it for me when I was 15. Sure it had a V-6, but at least it was a bird. Heres and odd thought, could you imagine a female Mercedes or BMW owner working on their car.

My comments are same for male or female. While the stock look is my preference, there is a reason the after-market does well.
Your car shows that someone has put a lot of effort and passion into their hobby. Yes, it is rare that a woman be as much of a gearhead as you. Refreshing, I think. My wife likes cars (driving them, that is).
Good effort.

Maybe I'm an anomaly but I wouldn't hesitate to talk to a woman about her car, especially one who takes the time and effort to wire power acessories herself LOL!
As for your car I like it, as was stated above, well planned out.

Very nice ride redraif, all that time and effort is really something to be proud of! Dont let the negativity of others bring you down, sometimes its just jealousy!
I love the way everything on your car is creative and different from all the others. Keep up the good work! :lala:

Hey redraif you car is not really my taste but I do like some of things you have done. Like the like custom things that no one else has!! I am very impressed w/ the craftsmanship that you have put into the car. Just as long as you like it that is all that should matter and I am glad to see that you don't get upset about what other people say. Keep doing the custom things:rockon: If everyone liked the same thing it would be a boring world.
