How to get rid of my black bump strips on side: Pic inside

Basically they are the black strips down each side to stop your paint getting chipped when someone opens their door in to you. I want to take them off and put on white, wider ones that don't break up the lines of the car. Problem is that they are riveted on So where can I get some decent ones to replace these and what would be the best way to get these ones off and the new ones on. Body filler in the resultant holes presumably wouldn't be enough as it would fly or fall out if I shut the door... Bigger problem than it looks..

Any help appreciated.

Are you sure they're riveted??? I've got an 86 TA and they were the standard glue on type.

If you're going to put another strip back on then why do you need to fill the holes?

As for getting them off. If they're riveted then there must be a metal plate behind the rubber. Remove the rubber with a hairdryer (melt the glue) from the metal plate and then use a good pair of cutters to hack up the rivet head and push them through the door.

Definitely riveted on I was surprised too! I want to fill the holes so that no water can seep through and in to the door.

Thanks

Weld shut, grind flat, prime, paint. Yep It's definatly a bigger problem than it looks.
