Seat belt removal ??

How do I get the seat belts out of the plastic piece on the actual seat, without cutting the plastic ? I just bought a complete set of 4th gen seats for $100 and I don't know how to remove the seatbelts from the 3rd gen "holders" to put them in the new "holders" on the 4th gen seats.

TIA

Should be a couple of screws holding them on. What year is your car?

My car is a 91 RS. I know how to get the retainer off of the seat, what I can't figure out is how to get the seat belt out of the 3rd gen retainer to put in the 4th gen retainer.

Thanks,

you will probably have to cut the retainer. most people cut the 4th gen retainers on the base were it attaches to the seat to put the belt in. once it is screwed back onto the seat you really cant see the cut, so its not a big deal.

No! You dont need to cut them! It is split on the bottom! there are 2 screws and one is underneath the other one! Youll see when you do it.

I have done this one!

I have exchanged existing 3rd gen front seat belts for ones that work. ('89 RS)

Apart from from the moderate nightmare of extracting the roof retractors, and the need to use a breaker bar to extract the floor retainers, I had the following issues.

1. My existing belts were black, with black casing.
2. the used parts were all grey.
3. They told me you can remove/exchange the casings.
4. You can't.
5. Well.. you can if you want to drill out the rivets in the casing at the floor end, but I still couldn't figure out how to change the roof piece that clicks into the retactor.
6. I used a plastic spray to paint over the grey. It looks great.. a lot less hassle.
