sun visor mount question
91 bird..........my passenger side sun visor keeps fallin down by itself, highly annoying......so i figured id just tighten the screw that holds the visor onto the post, this usually works....no dice...so i took it all apart and the post and the mount are all one piece and the post is lose as hell in the mount...any way to fix this or is a new mount in order? i cant see anyway to tighten it...the posts just spins freely

If you take the 3 screws out and take out the whole mounting assembly, you will see (hopefully) a nut that you can tighten down on the spring around the post. There's a change the nut came off and is somewhere on top of your headliner.

I have just replaced a visor on my '89 RS, and have had a similar problem, cured as you say by tightening up the screw on the shaft). Can't see that tightening up the bolt in the main assembly will help, as you can pull the visor right off the shaft no matter how tight the bolt in the main housing is. You really have two options (1. cheap and not noticed, or 2. Buy an OEM replacement inc. all mounting parts). I'd go for the cheap option of :
a) Try a different grub screw.
b) Change the roof mount assembly (and/or) change the shaft, if the shaft is worn.
c) Pack out the shaft where it is hidden in the visor.

yeah i took it off, theres a spring with a washer on top of it and a hole in the center of that, no nut.....i thought there may be something at the base of that hole that would tighten the post but there isnt, whats the point of the spring?
As far as I can tell, the spring in the mount is to allow the visor to swing (and stay) out towards to side window. The movement of the visor (in your face) is entirely dependant on that grub screw. Just pull off the visor and wind some tape on the shaft. Crude, I know, but it'll work.

Whatever your car has(d) to tighten the post...nut or screw...has come loose and fallen out. I redid my headliner and greased the sunvisor mounts and then screwed the scew (or nut) down tight on the spring, so I know how it should work. If your other one is not loose, take it out and look at it and you will see what I'm talking about.

This is the problem I am addressing. The grub screw IS for keeping the visor from swinging down. The one I'm talking about is for tightening the post in the mounting plate.

mmm welp ill look in the hole in the liner but it looks like ill have to buy a new mount cuz im not ripping the liner out to look for no screw or nut.....also...wrapping the post with tape wouldnt help because the visor and post move as one, the post is loose inside the mount.....

I experienced a similiar problem. I replaced the mount and all was cured.

All I did was put superglue on the shaft and tape on the shaft where the screw meets it, its working so far.
