sanding plastic

alright, was detailing the engine bay and ended up going out and buying new fluid tanks(washeer fluid and coolant overflow). now the coolant tank had a nuber stamped on it so I got that of but there was a small dicoloration under it. I tried to sand it off but now the area around it looks darker from an angle. Is there any way to snad plastic and not get any discoloration?

Keep going over it with finer grits and expanding the area by maybe a half-inch each time. That's called feathering and sort of blends everything together with a smooth transition. You might also want to use wet sandpaper and water on it. Plastic likes to catch sandpaper particles and this may be the discoloration you're talking about. The water should keep that from happening.

sanding plastics

try 1200 wet rub with a small amount of dish washing liquid then you might need to polish up with a ferecla or 2 pak de nibbing compound on a wet foam buff pad on a buffing machine or if you don't have a buff rubb the crap out of it with compound on a damp cloth.
good luck as this type of plastic is quite soft
