Mysterious 3 holes!

This is a strange request!
Nothing urgent, just an interesting discovery that someone might be able to explain!
I am open to all suggestions!!

I am restoring a 1991 RS (T5 and 350 in it etc) and while the back right wheel was off and the interior trim removed on the same side, I noticed three 1/8" holes drilled through the inner wheel arch through into the inside, coming out just under the seat belt attachment plate. I have attached a photo to show exactly where. Why would someone want to drill 3 holes in the worst possible place on a car for water ingress in to the interior (apart from the roof of course!).
There were no signs of anything actually been there. No thread marks and no marks on the paint or metal.

What the hell?!!

Just curious!!

Andy.

Mysterious 3 holes view from under wheel arch!

Here is the view from underneath. You can just about see the 3 holes (coloured white).

I drilled some holes there to mount caps, and never had a water problem...

Are you sure you didn't run over some varmint that had some wild fangs? Maybe as his twisted corpse flung around the tire, his face whacked the wheel well and his teeth punctured it or maybe someone just liked drilling holes. Sorry for offering this pointless ramble.

3 holes

strooth! tricky one.
I've seen mount holes in similar positions for burnout lines (used to squirt oil or deturgent out onto rear wheels to start burnouts easier)

Which caps are these then?

Thanks for the replies-interesting ones! A Varmit eh? Never thought of that! Glad we don't have varmits like that here in the UK!! Or do we? My next door neighbour though..............................

Burnout fluid? Hmmm! Might try that! No holes on other side though! Unless varmit had blunt teeth that side!

Thanks again.

Andy.

PS Has anyone got to point in a restoration and then the cash just plain ran out!!! Perhaps this resto wasn't such a bargain after all!!
