Rear hatch switch short ?

Anyone have any advice for me ? My rear hatch switch in my 87 IROC functions once in a blue moon. Rear hatch and motor for it still work when opening manually, just not with the switch. Anyone know if replacing the switch will alleviate the problem, or am I looking at some disgusting electrical work ?

you could have a malfunctioning switch,or a relay that does not work all the time.
Intermittened problems suck.

the relay should be under the dash on the passengers side behind the lower dash panel near the firewall.
