i want to get a formula or trans am sometime and swap in a LT1 and have fun with that. That would be all performance though. I sixer is the appearance car.

i'm not saying get rid of the sport coupe tho. An engine swap is always possible. My roomate has an 87 camaro LT, originally a 2.8 multiport car that's now a 305tpi car.
his car's before and after would actually be great in this post as well. He wrecked the thing with something like 150,000 miles on it, but instead of junking it, it was restored into a really kickass camaro.

What until I get some true performance out of my six. I am not saying i will be able to out run a modded eight, just be able to keep up with a stock L98, thats my goal at least.
the 60* sixes are great engines, but GM didn't give them there full potential. They can get 250-300 horses no sweat. It is just more expensive, cuase not everybody wants to do it.
I have always been the one who HAS to be different.
And besides the 22 mpg on streetand 27 mpg on highway will save me money in the long run. I plan to be "BURRIED" in this car so might as well put some money into it. Besides its only my dialy driver, i don't plan on takin it to the track much. My track car will be an eight. I want to be able to do everything at once and take my time on it. Will I build the eight, i drive a "Hot Rodded" Sixer.
sorry i wrote so much, just i love the six cyclinder so much...

re: IROC2NV
I gotta give this guy credit where it's due - though his car's appearance is not to most people's taste here on the boards (myself included), I have to commend the way he handles the constant onslaught of insults he recieves concerning his car. Alot of people slam it or rip into it due to the spoiler, or the kit, or whatever....he just kinda shrugs them off and remains pretty polite about it. I'd like to think I'd be able to handle the situation in the same manner, though I know I wouldn't. You got my respect, dude, sorry if I was an ******* in any of your earlier posts.

lol, i thought brian had turned over a new leaf not going overboard on image posting, and then i saw his sig
stuart, your argument does hold true, it's far from impossible to make 250 - 300 hp out of a 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4, but it's gonna cost a lot more than just picking up an l98 or an lt1 or a 3.8 turbo drivetrain. You could always do nitrous or boost to get you there, but it won't last long on those crappy assed shortblocks.
Another problem is a transmission worth half a crap to bolt up to it. The v6 trannies are intentionally made weaker, because they don't need to stand up to the same abuse as the 8 cylinder cars.
As far as keeping mileage is concerned, you can't go wrong with a 6 speed
that's why the 4th gens have such stellar mileage. A nice LT1/6speed combo and you'd be in great shape.
for the record, my 2.8 car always gotta horrible gas mileage relatively. My 2000 gtp has a bigger engine, 100 more horsepower, 100 more ft-lbs, and its all pushing around a bigger car, and the gtp rapes it on mileage.

i gonna spend the money on the six
plus its too damn expensive to put in an eight, think what ill have to do...
engine (duh)
tranny (six one won't bolt up)
gonna need a new radiator
engine mounts
who leaves the engine stock?
see where i am going?
things add up
list goes on and on
I will get 250 and that is that. That's all i want. 115 over stock. plane and simple. I reworked suspension, stb, sfc, etc to hold the new load and i will have one good dialy driver
a gtp is nice, but i don't have that kind of cash
slowly building the camaro up
as for the LT1 and t-56 thats why i want a t/a. I have ALWAYS wanted to that swap. gonna drive the six around for the time it takes me to do that. Maybe someday drop in an eight to my camaro, i don't know, but for now its staying a six.
anything else?
6's aren't bad at all
Hey Stuart, I can relate to you loving your 6. I had an '85 SC with a 2.8 and I loved her to death, was going to keep her forever. Eventually I got bit by the HP bug and had to get an 8, that and after the SC's horrible previous owners she had many problems. So, sold her and bought an '89 TA...... greatest day of me life hahaha
