new, the best price i found was 270 us for headliner, sail panels, sunvisors. $170 for plastic one. For a hard top.

I had to trow out mine due to a mouse nest and turds everywhere.

I plan to buy a used one, and fix it as in the tech article.

Either you can get a used one from a junkyard or buy a new one from teh dealer. Or there are places that specialize in headliner repair. Usually only charge about 70-80 bucks. For me I just ripped out the headliner and kept it out. O_o It looks pretty cool with that "race look" but truthfully the real reason I did it was cause my headliner was cause my headliner was just too ****ed up. haha...

Check your Yellow Pages for Auto Reupholster Shops in your area.
Had mine done this way and it turned out great, just like the factory one. My cost was about $150.00, the only way to go.
Forget about junkyards and mail order replacements they will look like Sh-t. My opinion.

Well since we are on the subject i was looking at the plastic head liners to eventually replace mine (its torn in few spots and is generally old, but doesn't sag yet, just thinking ahead), and was wondering how bad they are to install and what you guys think of em.

They are a P.O.S. in my opinion.

I reapaired the one in my old 86 T-top car and also in my 88 GTA hardtop. It is really not a difficult job. Just take your time and do not start drinking beer till you are done. For the rough areas on the headliner I used fiberglass cloth and some good 3M spray adhesive. Once finished let it sit overnight and dry before attemping to recover. JoAnn Fabric store sells the proper color headliner materials. It is also a hellaof alot cheaper than buying the fabric through Ames,NextGen,etc. Note- when you are doing a T-top car, make sure you leave aleast an xtra 3 1/2 to 4 inches of cloth to finish off the inside of the headliner at the top by the glass tops. When your tops are off you can see down there. so it may as well be finished also.
