touching up apint, big time

heres the deal guys, until i can afford my sweet mildly custom paintjob, i'm going to need to touch things up a bit. but i'm not sure where to start. i want to keep the parts with my decals the way they are, (formula decals are 119 bucks) so i was thinking, you know that line moulding thing on the side of the car? i may just paint above that. anyone think it's ok, bad, good, whatever? any thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Molding

Are you talking about the rubber strip that runs between the wheel wells, and the length of the door. The only problem if you don't use a somewhat flexible paint when people hit it with their doors in the parking lot, it will chip worse than it probably looks now. But than Again, you can always paint it over again. Mine is painted white, because when I painted my car I realized how yellowed it was, so I just sprayed it white.

forgot part of what I was saying

As for just painting half the door above the decal, you will probably be able to see it a mile away. Depends on the color, but it will be faded or yellowed. I would just strip off the decal and paint the car clean, it will look alot better to have a good paint job without decals than a crappy one with decals. You could always just tape off and paint the FORMULA back on the door, its not that dificult layout. You could also go to your local custom shop that makes the letters for the rear glass and get them to dup it for you. Probably wan't look exactly the same but only us firebird people would know.

i think it depends if you have metallic paint, cause in the sun light, you will notice the difference in the metallic stuff, but using that door molding to hide the transition is the right idea. and if its just to hold you off until a better day when you can get a real paint job, i say its worth a shot

yellowing isn't a factor at all, the car is black. glad to see that i seem to have gotten the right idea. And, yes i am talking about the trim that goes wheel well to wheel well. it's just a temporary thing until i get the awesome paintjob. thanks guys, any suggestions on technique, etc???
