patch panel?

patch panel?

well my drivers rear fender is rotting away pretty bad. the rust keeps going and going and goin.....its not bad enough to where i need to replace the whole quarter i dont think....where can i get a patch panel? and what is it really? is it just a panel where you cut out what you need and weld it on there? then smooth out the welds and use body filler?? please help me out here!!!

home depot sells sheetmetal in the hardware section. can weld the new metal on, can pop rivet it in place too.

they have 'em at auto parts stores too.
It's easy all you have to do is weld,grind the weld and then fill it in whith body filler.

how would i do it around a bend? you know the part of the fender where it curves and then dips under and goes to the wheel well?

there are special metal working tools for bending sheetmetal. but backyard mechanics can often get by with their bare hands, a vise and a pair of pliers. if you have to make substansial bends, you may wish to make some small relief cuts in the metal prior to bending.
