Rust in all the worst places... :(

Ok guys, I need some help... I am starting to find some rust, and in the worst place. I have rust on the rear of the hatch where the bolts are to connect the spoiler.

I don't know what I should do about this, it seems like eventually I may be able to pull the spoiler right off

I also have rust in the t-rails. If I replace these, what should I do to prevent further rust?

Thanks

try cutting a stripe of meatal, drill a hole through it and but the spolier bolt through that hole. That will keep the spolier on but not stop the rust.

Sand the rust a little, and POR-15 it.

por-15 encapsulates the rust. it does not remove or other wise alter the structure of it.

my preference is either to sandblast or etch the surface with phosphoric acid, then apply the coating.

Damn rust

Well, the rust on this part seems to actually be eating and bubbling up the inside, unde the paint. I can only assume that watergot in from under the sppoiler, through the bolt openings themselves. I t is rusintg aorund those rubber stoppers or whatever they are. I might have to opt for a new hatch. Considering that my defrost lines are also screwed up due to a poor tinit job, that might be a good option, if I can find one in decent shape.

Depending on what year you have I have a nice 86 black hatch w/defrost from my Trans Am--in black. I'm right over the border off 80 in Pa.
