How to jack right rear of car- if there's no "right rear of car"???

Well, looks like I forgot a minor detail, heh heh, of swapping that right rear of a car onto mine. (Quarter panel replacement) The rear 1/2 (more like a rear 3/8th) of a car in my yard has the LCA mount and panhard mount on it. I want to weld the whole piece onto my car instead of cutting the hell out of my rusted car to weld on pieces.

But... I planned to have the car on 4 level jackstands. I just realized my jacking point, right in front of the rear lower control arms, will be GONE! Think I could put a jackstand in that area, with a piece of wood between the floorpan and jackstand? Or will the whole car flex, and bend in half?

Side note; bought an auto-darkening welding helmet today, the http://www.hornell.com 's Speedglas "Utility" helmet. So now, at least, I'll be able to see 100% what I'm welding! Thing looks kinda funky, like a motorcycle helmet or space helmet as opposed to a welding helmet. One cool thing- when the helmet's off, it's a shade 6. When you turn the helmet on, it lightens to a shade 3! So if the batteries ever fail, I won't go blind. I bought it with the lens that darkens to shade 10.

i think your car would definitely and unfortunately flex and you'd be looking at buying new floor pans ... what about placing the 4th support underneath the axle, failry close to you, and then supporting the right rear corner of the car with wooden blocks under both the gas tank and behind the right hand door ?

Thanks for the reply!! Problem is, there won't be an axle under the car, so that's out.. but I will also be removing the gas tank... so I could brace that back half with wood. The tank won't be in the way! I could go right to the floorpan "above" the tank. Good idea! I should take some pictures of what's in my backyard to show what I mean. Right now I'm wondering if I shouldn't replace the whole thing. Hm...

Use a peice of say 2X2 square steel tubing, or anything else you have that won't bend, put it across the car just in front of where you'll cut, tack weld it on,(to the pinchwelds on the sides, maybe to the floor too), use it as your jacking points, It'll be level from one side to the other, then all ya gotta do is level the frame using the front stands. You know to brace the trunk area with tubing, angle iron, etc, before you cut the entire corner of the car out, right?

I have done this by placing 4X4s across the front and rear area of the floor pans, and resting the 4X4s on jackstands. The pinch weld of the rocker panels will then support the weight of the car rather nicely.

Thanx,ANDYZ28
