I've got to say that a clean thirdgen bird is very good looking, but I also have to admit that the only "turn-off" if I can call it that, is the pop-ups. They just seem uneccesary bulky to me.
Now, this is not only a 'Bird thingy for me as Im not a very big fan of pop ups (when up) period.

However, I've had this idea for pop-ups in my head for years - that initially started when I was looking into getting a C3 Vette.
What Im thinking of is if you could kinda build in the lights in the very back of the light pockets (imagine the entire headlight assembly being removed) - kind of like some of the kits you can find for the C3 Vettes. Then I would like to see a solution where there is a lid like on top of the stock lights, but instead of them "opening" in the front, it shold go down in the back to reveal the built in lights where as the lid now become the "bottom" of the light pocket. I think that would look slick..!

I realize that this would be a complicated unit, but yet I think very unique. There would also be some careful measuring in order to make the lid fit smoothly both while up and down, as well as clearing the lights when going up/down.

I hope my description made sense....LOL

do you mean, basically, a big banana shaped bucket cover that slides through about a 180* arc, but covers 360* of the circle ?

Because, if I put my lights up half way...by means of the ****, and turn the lights on, they will go up and I am pretty sure the motor stops after it gets up. I doubt that has anything to do with the gears that are in there.
Anyway, let me know if I am wrong about the motors.
I agree. When my passenger side was going out...I would hit the switch and run and pick up the light and hold it till it finished cycing. Then it would hold the light up by itself Now the gears inside were complete wasted.

And I have noticed on a friends bird...he had a front end collision. One of his lights will only go part way up beacause of the way the bumper cover is tweaked. Once the headlight motor is done cycling it will hold it solid at the 1/2 way mark and the light is lit. So I would think you would just need something to stop the light from going any higher that your choosen height and hold it. Once it is done with its cycle it will lock the headlight door in that position.

Well, I think the 91-93 Grand Prix lights would work...except, they might be too tall and too wide. So, really they wont work at all then. Hahaha.

Anyway, I think the 3000GT/Stealth lights would look decent in there. I doubt the door would have to flip up more than 2-3 inches, which is really nothing compared to the 5-6 that they go up now. I would give it a try if I had the money. I'll probably take a look-see and find out what the lights would cost by themselves and just make a fiberglass frame for them. That way it's not all messed up.

Does anyone know what those lights run price-wise?

I did a photoshop on a 90's bird, so an 80s would go up even less due to the cutout in the bumper.

well, let me know what ya think. I guess it could be done with either round or the square/rectangle bulbs if you can find some.

Isn't it possible to just adjust the lights with the ***** when they're up, and put them 1/2way down, or whatever you're looking for....?

Zepher thats a rad idea about just using the front parts to the Evo 2.. i originally bought my 3rd gen just to have that kit, but im thinking 8K is too much. plus then i have to buy wheels and tires.. sucks... thats about 10k just to make the car look good on the OUTSIDE ONLY!!!

some one should photo shop just the front of the car and leave the back en 3rd gen style. i wonder how bad *** that would be.

i bet the damn guys that sell it wouldnt sell us just the parts we need though. either that or they would charge 4k for it.. damn rip off..

Oh it would be more then 10K to get it to look good outside. Think of all the body work, unless of course you were going to do it all and paint it too.

I heard some people have called about the door mod and they are not interested in selling it separate. Though after talking to them @ the TA nats, it maybe more because there are a few kinks to get them to work right. You have to contantly adjust them. So it might be worth while to call and inquire. Or at least ask them what it takes to mod the light section. Is theirs even a direct bolt up or are there changes that would have to be made to the rest of the body to accept the parts. Though you keep your doors, so I would think the frt clip could be done alone.

That alot to go thru for lights though.

Re: firebird pop-up delete possible ?

The problem with the 91/92 bumpers is that there is basically no vertical rise, meaning they'd stick up like little bumps. Look at the C5 pop-up headlight deletes.
