I'm in the process of replacing my driver's side fender. It isn't too difficult, but you'll need help. You have to remove your front end first, although you could probably get away with just loosening up the end you're replacing, although I personally wouldn't risk the bending you might cause the opposite end. Better to just remove the whole thing.

You may have to remove your air dam, if you still have those black plastic undercover things under your car, because they're bolted under the air damn bolts. Remove the little brace for the fender, disconnect your side marker, remove the hood, and finally undo all the bolts on the fender.. Oh, and don't forget to remove your stone deflector, and detach ground fx if you have them.

As for what to replace it with, the consensus opinion seems to be trying to find a good used one if you're on a budget. I found one for $40-50 (I haven't been given the actual price, they're going to pull it off the car tommorrow at the yard.) I thought an aftermarket one would be the way to go, can't beat $45, new, but all the guys here said aftermarket ones aren't much better than sheet metal, and they don't fit well either. You said you were looking for cost effective, so I figure that leaves out a brand new GM fender, which would run you somewhere around $250.00.

You're in SC, try talking to LT1Guy. I think he's located in Georgia, and he was telling me he knows a few yards where they're $25-30 and they're plentiful. Georgia isn't that far a drive from SC.
