two styles of T tops in 84 ?!

uhm this otrher 84 Z28 i just got the other day has totally different type of T-tops latch mechanism than the last 84 Z28 i had recently.

in this current 84 Z the tops latches kinda slide back and not turn, in the previous 84 Z the latches turned and didnt slide back like these other ones, i dont like the ones in this current 84 and the driver side one is all fubared up real bad anyways, the weatherstripping and everything is different even. and the glasses dont have plastic edge surrounds like the other 84 had.

whats up with this ? 84 oddball thing ? both cars are Van Nuys and 84, so...
hmm

thanks for anything

One of them is an aftermarket setup made by C&C in the 80's. They were not very good even when they were new and leaked a lot.

would both cars have the CC1 RPO on the body tag ? the other 84 Z28 did, with the turn style t tops handles, i wonder about this current 84 Z28..... i dont like this other Z28 style of t tops at all... very crappy.. the middle T bar looks same but everything else is basically different in some way or another.,

thanks

The aftermarket one will not have CC1 in the RPO's. Yea they are pretty crappy!

is there any code info on the glass that would clue me in to if these tops are factory or not ?

how about this: handles on these 84 tops are chrome and the car's body tag does not list CC1 on it. just AR9, whatever tht is, the other Z28 I had had that code on tag too, so,.,

and the ones on the CC1 84 Z28 i just had and sold recently were with black handles.

does any of this tell anyone anything ? definitely am thinking the Z28 i have now is not factory T tops car. how can t tops be added to a car ?? did not know such thing was possible unless by a custom shop ?? can i return car back to hard top without alot of fab work ?

thanks :

The only way to convert your tee top car back to a hardtop car would be to cut off the entire roof in the factory weld locations which were about half way up the front windsheld pillars and 4/5 the way up the sail panels.
Every car has AR9 it's: AR9 : SEAT, FRT BKT, EUROPEAN STYLE, PASS A DRIVER RECL

You could just get some contact cement and cement the tops in place!!

that doesnt sound like fun converting one back to hard top,. hmm.,.,
wonder how in the hay they converted the hard tops to glass tops ? who did this anyways back then ? was there a specific company that GM contracted out for this, or ?

thanks

Some spare parts for the C&C tee top I understand are carried by the sunroof doctor.-----www.sunfroof doctor.com I have a C&C top also. Replaced the seals 2years ago and it leaks a little at the car wash.
