question about 4th gen dash swap plz HELP!!

im planning on doing the 4th gen dash swap into my 92 RS...i think i pretty much know what im doing and im confident except for one thing, after reading many posts about this i've seen people talking about "digital dakota box" reguarding the speedo and similar things to that...i thought there was just a wire that needed to be spliced in order for the new 4th gen speedo to work, could some one please explain this to me?? thanks alot, will post pics soon!

If someone could come up with a good technical article with pictures etc. I would personally send them a money order for $20.

I really want to do this swap but I would love it if someone made a good article to go by.

Ok here's the deal. If your car is a 91-92 then the speedo is not cable driven, it uses VSS. The VSS signal comes straight from the tranny. When you swap in the 4th gen dash and cluster, the speedo on the 4th gen cluster wont read correctly. It will jump all around. The 4th gens also use VSS but at different pulse rates. The solution is a Dakota Digital box that goes between the tranny and the cluster (on the VSS line) and makes the VSS signal 4th gen cluster friendly. So that way you can use a 4th gen guage cluster (or more specifically, a 4th gen speedo) with the stock 3rd gen tranny. Other than that, the rest of the wires from the guage cluster should be a straight up splice deal. You can find enough info on the swap just from searching. It will take some time but alot of info is on this website. Someone even made a wiring diagram (Sofa King I think) to splice the 4th gen cluter to work in the 3rd gen.

You can find them online at http://www.dakotadigital.com You will probably have to email or call them to find out exactly what you need. Unfortunately I dont know the part number or anything, I havent gotte that far yet. Still waiting for the dash to come in

Just explain the problem to them, they should know what you need. If you do find out, it would be cool if you could post it here. Thanks!

Shawn

this is kinda off topic, but did you have to cut the dash any to get it to fit? contemplating doing it myself and not sure about getting it to fit and so on
