Power hatch just won't quit!

It keeps cycling up and down up and down. I came out just after a rain and there it was all by itself up and down up and down. I even tried to grab it at the top of its cycle but it didn't want to let go. Are there sensors in the track assembly that could have gotten wet and that is why it just doesn't want to stop cycling?

i had a problem with my hatch motor, however my motor would just keep running, because one of the teeth on the plastic gear broke off, yours could possibly have something to do with a similar problem. but because it still goes up and down , i would check the relay and other things first.

Try PMing lonsal

He sells parts and refurbed units, so he might be able to tell you what the problem is and he'll have what you need to fix it.

I know what makes it go up. I know what makes it go down. I don't know what makes it go up/dn/up/dn....

It makes no sense to me. The striker sensing switch being triggered causes the unit to go down. But only while it is engaged. It continues down until the reversing switch is tripped, which ends the cycle. At this point the unit SHOULD only go up IF the striker sesning switch is released (when you pop the hatch). I do have a theory as to what is happening. When the unit goes back up the striker sensing switch makes contact with the hatch hook and sends the unit back into the down cycle. The missing piece of this puzzle is WHAT is causing the unit to cycle back up in the first place.

I do recall having a problem with a rebuilt unit when I tested it. I can't recall if the symptoms were exactly as you've described. But I do know I cured it by replacing the striker sensing switch. I could see no problem with the switch or wiring. It wasn't worth my time to try and troubleshoot the switch and wiring. I just replaced it and the problem was solved. My educated guess is the striker sensing switch is the problem.

I still have a glitch on my web site. It prevents you from being able to register or purchase online. But the web site will give you an idea what I have available. Just e-mail me through the web site or PM me with your shopping list if you want to purchase anything.

I guess I will have to dig into it

But It probably won't be until the spring as it is going into winter storage. I do have a donr car around so I can scab some parts from there. What was really wild was going out to get the mail and hearing that thing running all by itself. The car had been parked for several hours and the hatch probably hadn't been used in weeks. Thank You for you replies

this sounds like a relay problem to me. but thats just me. there should be a small relay that controls it next to the lock. i have fixed mine, and a friends in his 86 firebird. they are really simple to repair and fix.

I Did replace it once a few years back

But I don't remember if it was doing the same thing. I know it didn't fix the problem so I still have the old relay around somewhere
