Found brand new headlight motors, but...
I came across a new set of headlight motors at Uncle Joe's garage. He says they are for my car (88 GTA) but they look different and the connectors don't match (mine are two bullet looking things, the new ones are square-ish). First off, how do I identify which year these are for? Second, how to I splice to make them fit (if possible)? If not, I can always put them up on ebay as they are mint. Thanks for the help all.

sounds like you have the newer two wire system on your car and the ones your uncle gave you are for the older three wire system so no they probably won`t work on your car if you post them on ebay also put fiero in the desription though as I know from experience the firebird headlight motors fit the fiero if you change the electrical plugs.

hold yer horses there boss, i got the EZ fix for ya.
if your motors run but dont lift your lights then heres what ya do. pull out your motors, and there will be a plate on the side of the motors. one will have a shaft going thru it and the other will be just molded . pull these side covers off. to make it easier loosen the 2 screws on the top of the motor where the armature is.
DO NOT REMOVE THESE SCREWS, JUST LOOSEN!!!!
this will make it easier to remove the shafts when the side covers are removed. there is a small gasket, take care when removing this.
aftre you hve the shafts removed there is a plastic gear and a shaft, separate these 2 items. it might take a lil wiggleing but they come apart.
when you separate the shaft from the gear you will see what resembles grated cheese. this is why your motors dont do their job properly. it WAS the bearings that lock the shaft plate and the gear together to raise your lights. now go to a local bearing shop or a place that has a large stock on loose bearings and buy "6" loose ball 15/32 bearings. 3 per side.
get some white lithium grease and use a pretty good amound where the bearings go and on the gear area.
when you are putting the DR side shaft back in, iit will give yuo a lil hassle, just wiggle and turn the motor shaft as you wigglen the lift shaft and it will go in eventually. sometimes it pops right in.
also pay attn to the brass washers thatt goes on the lift shaft .
put everything back together as yuo pulled it apart and when yuo hit te lights next time they will work flawlessly.
i did mine and havent had a hassle since.
