what i thought was sun fade on the front and rear bumpers of my 92 rs turned out to be the clear coat coming up, or so i think, i have attacked it with polishing and rubbing compound and it did a decent job for how bad it looked, my question is, is there anything that will remove the clear coat easily while leaving the paint alone???

 

first thing that comes to mind would be to sand it down making sure not to cut through the color.
