I need help with a speedo swap...

I'm going to upgrade my 120 speedo to a 140 cluster ut I have a question about changing the milage on the new odo.

My current odo reads 103012, the new one reads 100,32x

What is the best way to advance the new one to match my current one? Should I use a drill? What RPM is safe?

I know it's only 3K miles but I'd like to have it accurate, I'm picky

Thanks!

Yay a topic i know about!!!!!!

ok this isnt that tricky... get both of your speedos take the plate off... of both(keep track of hich is the 120 and 145..you will see a small retaining clip holding in the bracket that houses the odometer... pull the brace off and take out the odometer numbers(Be careful not to break the paper on the back of the small little clips) then simply take the old one out and put it in the new one. its that easy. the paper on the back is what makes the dealer know if there was odometer freud and what not, make sure the little clips line up in the back when you install the odometer to the new speedo... if u need anyhelp send me a pm.

now that I know this ... im thinking of swapping my 120 mph gauge with a 140 mph gauge ...

did you have to swap anything other than the gauge? I read in some posts something about a controller board?... do I need to make sure I get this with the gauge?

Any light you can shed on the matter would be very helpful!

If your're doing just the gauge it's a piece of cake. Looking at the back of the cluster, there will be 3 screws holding the speedo (brass colored), and 3 screws holding the controller board (silver colored). Remove them and the entire speedo unit just lifts out of it's housing. Reinstall the new speedo the same way. The board is connected to the speedo so the old board will go with the old speedo and the new speedo will of course have it's own board attached. You can't just swap faces...

are you talking about a mechanically driven camaro or an electric firebird??

cause i just did the speedo swap from a 120 to a 145 in my 89 camaro and i didn thave to switch no controller board or anything it was quite simple.
