Sun Damage?

I was putting something in my little storage compartment in my trunk the other day, and my finger slipped onto the plastic trim.

Well...my fingernail scratched a "gouge" into it I was very upset...

Basically... Is this due to sun damage? If so, is there anything I can do to reverse it, or failing that, stop it where it is?

What can I do to restore the plastic? The only thought I've had is to sand the damage off, and use vinyl dye to re color it... The biggest problems I see with this are: My trim in the trunk will be smooth (Or everywhere, if I redo it all), and if the damage is deep, My trim panels could get rather thin...

Thoughts? Suggestions?

TIA

Yes that is the product of oxidation from the sun...The only way i can think of to stop it is to tint tthe window or apply some kind of protectant to the plastic like an Armor-type product....HTH I would just replace yours with better one from a junkyard...I got a complete set from the junkyard for 25 dollars...in good shape too!!!

I'm with russ. Just go to a junkyard and find some good ones. I'm not too sure of any products being able to reverse the sun damage. Just make sure you protect the new pieces for the next go around

Its time to add a cargo cover Its real easy to do with or without the metal brackets. Or tint your windows.

Are all the 3rd gen interiors the same? Excluding the differences between T-Top, Hard, and vert, of course.

So with my '83 T/A, I can get stuff out of say, a 91 Camaro? Or only another Firebird?

That would depend on what you were gonna swap out. Some things are the same, others are different. Most of the main structure is the same, but dash, console, door panels, etc. they are exclusive to the breed

All rear cargo pieces can be interchanged without modifications, unless the panel you are getting has an option that yours doesnt have. If you dont have ttops and you get the rear panel in the spare tire well plastic panel from a t top car, it will have 2 small oval shaped holes which had to hook brackets for the t top bag to attach to. Same as the hatch shade, you can get the metal brackets and weld them in,they go under the plastic panels or you can still put one in with only using the shade and plastic panels that comes with it. The shade will wedge its self inbetween the panels "other member have done it this way". And if you want to have sholder belts for the rear seats then you will need to get the belts, and drill a hole in the rear wheel wells to and have the retracter at the proper angle to work properly. I had to do all of those to my sc when I found perfect black int pieces from an t top firebird to implant into my car The rear hatch trim for the headliner can be interchanged inbetween all 3rdgens ttop or hardtop it doesnt matter. The decklid panels are different depending on which option the car has. If you have a third brake light in your spoiler there will be an square hole next to the latch for a connector. The same goes for the spare tire well panel will have one to. Some thirdgens have a rear cargo lid that covers the spare tire well, it has a special panel spare tire panel with a bigger lip for the lid to lay ontop of when its closed. I hope I didnt miss anything
