How loose is your steering wheel colum?

I recently replaced my stock steering wheel with a new Grant sig series. When I first got it, I tried to take off the old steering wheel with brute force. After that didnt work I got a steering wheel puller and got it off and the new one on in a jiff. Now I have noticed that I have ALOT of wiggle in the colum. I can probably lift the wheel close to an inch and can wiggle it from side to side about an inch also. Is there something that I could have broken with my superman like strength ? Or is there something that I might have gotten too loose that I can tighten?
Any help would be appreciated.

Brian

Is it the whole column at the tilt joint, or just the wheel?

Be careful with those Grant adapters. They're made of a really soft metal that strips and wallows easily.

If it's not the wheel/adapter, but the column itself, then you'll have to disassemble a goot chunk of it to get to these three screws to tighten. Use a thread retention compound when you do to prevent future reoccurances.

There should be a tech article here or at a linked site that explains a good hot-to on this subject. It's pretty common in the 80s era GM cars and trucks.
