What did I do wrong to get swirl marks?

I got a buffer for christmas so I decided to test it out on my t-tops today. The ttops are in terrible shape so I figured they couldnt get any worse. Whatever kind of coating was on them peeled off and theres that spider-web cracking throughout them as well. I sanded from 600, 800 to 1500 and then took some 3m rubbing compound to the top with the buffer. When I finished it came out much better than I expected except there are 2 swirl marks obviously made by the buffer accross the ttop.

What did I do to make those? Push to hard/light? Not have it flat on the surface??

you have to learn how to move the buffer around properly....i would suggest getting a piece of steel and a grinding disc on your buffer and buff the steel

that way you can figure out how to move it around smoothly enough to not leave swirl marks....also how hard or soft depends on a lot of things
