Shift Indicator/Boot

Hey everybody! I have a chance to buy a new shifter boot and indicator for my 87 TA... The one I have now is really rough. Plus, and this is strange, it has no shift indicator. All it has is the letters for the gears. But there is nothing to show what gear its in. Not really a big deal because I can tell by how fast Im goin and at what RPM. Still it would be nice to know. My question is, will everything come with the new shift indicator to make it work on my car? Or will I need new components? Another words, are the shift indicators self contained with all the parts to attatch it to any thirdgen auto shifter??? Let me know what you think ASAP.

Thanks,
Justin

Also is it worth 15 bucks. Its nice lookin, but not perfect. Boot has alittle wear. no where near as much as mine tho...

From: pgh,pa,
im not real sure about firebirds, but i know camaros dont have a shift indicator. just the shift pattern. u can get a brand new boot from one of our members, i think his name is Mrithrande. or somethin like that. if the boot is all you need just get that, but if the whole plate is in better shape, get the whole thing.
BTW.
what part of PA you from?

later
Matt

Ok. Ive heard/seen some of the older birds, 86-89 having the shift indicator. Do you think it would still work on my car??? It looks like the same unit save for the indicator being functional. I plan on gettin a 4th gen console soon, cuz it looks good, and it will work nice with the six speed. But this thing is cheap, so I might just get it in the mean time.

By the way...Im near philly in PA... I go to school in Kutztown, which is where I am most of the time. Im closer to philly when Im home.

yep all the indicator is is a plate that goes around your shifter and is connected to a little colored piece of plastic that fits into the gear display and moves with your shifter handle it should work just fine
