Gauges in 4th gen dash-premature :)
Came home and found my dash and door panels I ordered from Hawks by the door. Tore the gauges out of the 3rd gen dash, took all the air ducting off the new dash to gain access to the 3 center vent holes to find out how much fabricating I'd have to do to make my gauges fit. NONE AT ALL, I have the Autometer Phantom series 2 5/8" and they fit PERFECTLY!!! Very snug and plenty of meat behind them for the brackets to bolt to the gauges and sandwich the dash. Just need to find the bezel for the dash and fab up some kinda of gauge insert for the speedo, tach, fuel, & clock. I'm hopein when I find the dash bezel with the air duct on the left side of the dash, the volt gauge will slide right in there as well, not getting my hopes up, but it would be nice.
Door panels are a different story. This is the first time I've seen 4th gens in person and I see they mount a different way, they slide into and down holes that must be in the inner door panel of the new cars, instead of the push in plastic tabs like the 3rd gens use. Need to get the car back, but the door bar and door panel clearence issue looks like it may need to be addressed-wish I knew I was going to do this swap before I welded the cage in. Oh well, have to wait and see.
