Hey all, I'm about to order the paint for my car (complete repaint). For you guys that have done this before, how much paint should I get to do it all?

 

This is a loaded question... There are several factors to deciding how much paint you will need. 1. What brand of paint will you be using. 2. are you using single stage or base coat / clear coat systems. 3. Some colors will take less paint because some colors cover faster than others. 4 What type of primers wil you be using. 5. What colors of primers & sealers will you be using. My suggestion to you is tell your Auto body supplier ( where you will be purchasing your paint )what your going to do and they can walk you through what systems & how much you will need for your project. Remember thats what those guys are for. Usually all you have to do is ask....:lala:

 

if you are getting any type of custom paint, order an extra gallon, because you will never match it again. just my 2 cents

 

Two gallons should be more than enough.

 

2 gal is plenty. When I painted my car with 1 stage paint I used 3/4 of 1 gal. I put 7 coats of black paint on there and still had some left over. Are you gonna paint yorself or have a shop do it?

 

I used about 3/4 gallon of acrylic enamel on my old 84 Z28....(had t tops).......better to have a lil more instead of not enough though....
