Sorry I have no pics, but I believe you can mount then to the floor if you dont have a bar...we are debating about this in teh 82 because I need hte strentgh of a rollbar to have a targa top, but I do not want to give up teh use of my backseats with a middle bar. I may go removable, but I don't know itf it will be track legal. Though I don't think shaved handles will be legal either.

Here's what I plan on doing in my 82, and just mounting the harness to the floor behind the seat. This is a 4th gen that was on ebay a few months ago.

I bolted the back harness to the bolt thats on the font of the bottom parts of the back seat.
The sides went to each of the back bolts of the drivers seat.
Im in the process of fabricating a bar that will let me mount the 5th strap under the middle of the front seat. The machine shop seemed to have been flooded lately due to the weather so i cant get into it.

deadtrend1----- Thats what I was kinda thinking about doing, but maybe adding a few bolts in the floor.
82 firebird------That looks like a nice setup. I will have to run the belts up over the back of the seat under the head rest. Those are nice seats though.

It is actualy a bit dangerous to have them into the floor. I have mine done like that in the floor till my cage is installed in my SS. Here's a pic for you. I am however going to move the mount spot on the floor to where I have the yelloow circle. This will keep me from compressing my spine in the case of a accident or something.

I though about adding a cage also, but dont want to loose the back seats either. I have a 3 year old daughter that loves to ride in "daddys camaro" as she calls it. I have seen the chrome show bars, but dont know were to get them. I guess S&W would make a custom one.
As far as the shaved handles, You will have to check the rule book for the track you go to. I is NHRA or IHRA? I beleive there will be a clause about how fast the car is , or require you to have someway to open from the out side. My friend has a 70 nova with shave handles, and runs 6.30's in the 1/8, but he has plexiglass windows with a hole cut in them to reach the inside handle.

I thought that Hooker made a simple 2-pt chrome bar, but I read somewhere that it would only fit hardtop cars...
How the heck do people actually powdercoat or chrome roll bars that are already inside cars?

maybe bolt in. Id say the chrome or powercoat ones are for show.
I guess a person could make one out of aluminum tubing and polish it . I dont know how strong it would be.

I will be sound proofing the 82 this weekend.
We have a group purchase going right now with S&W, so if they have something you want let me know. We just need 10 people. Joe and I are both getting the 8 point cage. I will not install it as an 8 point though. I just need the extra bars to do what I want. NHRA is going to have a fit. The car will run 11s in the 1/4. The deal I believe is that we can get the 8 point harness for $99.00 plus splitting the shipping. I will check with Joe if anyone is interested. The only catch is that it will be delivered to SC, but we are hoping to get it to Hawks 3rd gen parts and we will pick it up there when we go get my alum. drive shaft and Joe's Fiero.
On the rollbar...we are going to paint mine before it goes in and then just touch up the welds after. Or at least that is the plan. We want to make it blue. Candy blue if possible... then a blue Harness. The harness will go thru the headrest of my PMD seats.

Actually the group purchase, through the SC F&Y Body group. Here's a link to the GP:

I originally thought they had to be shipped together to SC, but apparently not...they'll ship wherever you want, and even though its truck freight, its still reasonable. Someone quoted $57 or so to a business.
The 8 point mild steel bars are going to be $98 if they get 10 or more. Whatever you want...8, 10, mild or chromemoly, for whatever car. Its rare you find a deal this sweet, and the bars are prenotched.

The PMD seats with the harnesses will look great. Good luck with the blue pearl. Im partial to blue.
I going to have to think hard on the roll cage. Im not ready for one yet, but that is a great deal. So its like $98 for the cage and then shipping right.
So are you two comming to the Grand Rod Run in Pigeon Forge in April?

Is a car like hers welcome at the Grand Run? I thought it was pre-49 only. If we can show, maybe...Ive always wanted to go to that. So far I don't know of any other events in April.

dont thinks so. I think it is pre 49. Check out the SE board. A bunch of us are planning on a f-body gathering down there.
Plus it is a great place to get ideas from the hot rods for our cars.

True...and I have always loved street rods. My dream car is a 33 Ford three window highboy coupe, chopped, no hood, bigs'n littles, with a blown (8-71) big block, narrowed 9" rear, painted black with flames. One day, after my F-body projects are done...

Yeah, I use to have a 51 chevy 5-window truck that I street rodded. It was almost ready to paint when I got rid of it. I did a frame up resto and put a built 283 with a th350 trans.
