Need help deciding on a hood....

I just can't seem to decide whether to just keep the original. The original is the factory '83 fiberglass hood- no cracks, scratches and in primer at the moment. I plan to get the whole car painted this summer, the whole car is in spraycan primer at the moment.

- or -

Looking at ASCD - A bolt on 2 1/2" cowl runs around $426.00, and should be as light if not lighter than the original.

- but -

Goodmark has a steel 2 1/2" cowl hood for the same price as the ASCD one......Hmmmmmmmm....

I don't think I will be trying to install a tunnel ram or anything that would require any more than the stock hood clearance in the future.
I do plan quite possibly getting a ZZ4 crate in the future however, but that shouldn't effect anything so far as hood clearance goes.
I'll most likely use the same intake, air cleaner and exhaust I have on my L69 right now. My stock hood closes fine over this w/the dual snorkle A/C.

Any opinions appreciated.

Uh...OK, Maybe I should just ask you're opinions on metal or glass hoods. Which would you get, and if anyone has pros and cons for both.

I've heard that aftermarket glass hoods are flimsy - true??

Honestly, since you're not worried about hood clearance, I'd run the original glass hood. They're light, and to me one of the best looking factory hoods ever put on a Z28.

The aftermarket fiberglass hoods are nice, but usually require some work to get them right...for example, Redraif's hood I had to reinforce the corners (three layers of mat), then kitty haired all around the seam to mold it all together. My ASCD hood is going to need the same treatment, at least to my standards. Also, plan on lots of priming and blocking (modern filler primers are awesome BTW) with any aftermarket fiberglass hood.

The Goodmark hoods are good quality, but heavy. You won't have to do nearly as much work to get one ready for painting as a fiberglass hood, though.
