Parking light lens removal ?

How do you remove the lenses from the parking light housings?

I see the upper and lower clips, so obviously it looks like they come off. Looks also like there is some type of sealant around the perimeter that was there from the factory once upon a time (that half of is gone now and brittle).

Any tips on taking them apart? I didn't try to pry or anything yet, I was afraid of breaking them and wanted to get some input from you guys first.

I used a rotary tool to cut the lens off (wizard) they came out pretty nice. Here is a picture of them mounted on the Car.

They come out....from the back....two 10MM bolts hold them in. There are pretty simple to get out....just jack your car up in the front....you have to get them out from underneath the car. Then, when you have them out...is when you have to "cut" the lenses off.....

Do you mind if I ask WHY you cut off the lenses? I assume you put them back on later? Was it to clean out the insides of the housing?

EXACLTY.....you can't clean the insides with out having to cut them off. You can clean the outside all you want...but if you don't clean the insides...they will still have that foggy look to them...

Ok, so if you cut them off, how the heck do you put them back together then? Did you cut through the clips too?

I am talking about the clips that snap the lens into place in the housing.

If you bought new ones, did you buy just the lens or the entire housing? Man, I bet those housings and lenses combined are about $50 a piece from GM!

Well, yes that part is true if you are talking about taking the lens and housing assembly out from the bumper cover.

I want to remove the clear part.. The lens itself from the housing.

Apparantly, this is not possible hardly at all without destroying the housing and lens.

I tried last night heating the perimeter with a heat gun and then tried to unsnap the clip on the bottom. The lens wouldn't budge. I don't see how I can effectively clean these without taking them apart. They do look like they should come apart, but I am gonna destroy them if I keep this up!

I just ain't prepared to pay $100 bucks for two stupid parking lights....

I don't see how you can "cut" them off too without ruining them.

Anybody else wanna shed some light on this one?

It's simple. If you have the light off the car you can see why easily. THe clips do nothing. THere is no other way to get that lense off other than cutting it. THey are heat melded together.

You cut them off then glue the them back on. has been done thousands of times.

Right on. I just wanted to make sure there was nobody that had taken them apart without cutting anything.

Thanks fellas.

Oh one more question unrelated..

When quoting somebody, how do you get the
