Just had the car painted last year. The body shop fu@ked up the clear coat bigtime. Anyway the car was done with everything off of it....i.e no tail, no lights, no mirrors...etc. So when they re-cleared the body, they left the windows down. (IDIOTS!!!) Anyway all my parts were sitting in the back. There was a nice mist of overspray allover everything. Damn parts felt like a cats toungue. I managed to get everything off the small stuff like the skirts using varsol and meguires scratch X cream. The problem is my wing. Its a fiberglass wing and its covered in clear overspray. How do I get it off? I dont want the shop to do it because they never did it right the first time and that was for money. Know way ill let them do it again. Just need some pointers.

To get the clear coat overspray off of a painted body piece such as your spoiler, use clay bar. You can get Meguiers Clay bar at walmart for ~$15 which should do the trick with a little elbow grease. Make sure the spoiler is VERY clean (free of dirt particles) so that the paint will not scratch and your clar bar will last longer. As for removing clear coat from plastics such as the tail lights, use a plastic buffing/polishing compound sold in Eastwood. With a mechanical buffer, the lights should come out better than new.

It's extremely fine (synthetic?) clay that you ball up in-hand. By carefully and firmly rubbing small areas at a time, the clay draws visible and invisible contaminates that distort the paint’s like-new finish. By kneading the clay often, contaminates picked up by the clay are kept from scratching the paint surface. How long the clay bar lasts is directly proportional to how many contaminates reside on the surface. This is the method professionals use and has been a well-kept secret!
