what makes power door locks stop?

my power door locks havent worked since i bought my cark, can somebody tell me what makes them stop working? when you push the button you can hear it trying to do something but it doesnt lock so im wondering what this is and how i can fix it? it makes a kinda quiet clicking noise when you hit the lock button.

I havent had any problems on mine so I dont know exactly what the layout in thirdgens is, but I used to have a Cadillac with power locks that didnt work. On the other door the reason was bad seals, water had dripped on the solenoid. And on the other, it was just jammed. When I lubricated the lock and things and changed the solenoid on the other door (and the door seals), I never had any problems again.

Just try putting some lube on the slides. WD-40 or Silicone oil.

Sounds like a common thirdgen problem, including my 85 IROC. I simply cleaned with WD-40, then liberally shot white grease on the tracks (do the windows while you're at it). Should you have door/window rattles, this would be a good time to address them. Check the following for pics and observations about various fixes:

I'm sure you could WD-40 the lock.. and motor.. if you just pop off the bottom corner of the door panel you should be able to reach it with the WD-40 hose... I don't know about tightening the bolts without removing it though.. also.. I don't know if you already tried .. but chech the connector rod between the actual lock and the lock motor... maybe they ARE unlocking and just not connected to the latch..
