Power to manual windows...

I'd like to convert over to manual windows. One becuase both my motors are fried and having no windows in hawaii is damn hot! (oh also I dont have any interior so that makes it even worse) So anyways will the manual window system just go right in? I'm guessing that its the same door and all that. But I just wanna make sure. I dont wanna take apart my door to find it it wont fit.

yeah its easy, I stole the power windows from my old 84 sport coupe before i sold it and put them in my 92 RS...and then I took the manual windows and put them back in the 84 SC, it was a very easy job, and probably took me less than 2 hours to install the manual windows, and I'd never even looked inside the door before...just drill out 4 rivets and swap everything over

Why? My arm works faster than power windows, I don't have to have a battery charged. Can you even use a slim jim on cars with power windows? What if you're locked out?

I don't think it's a dumb idea, and he didn't ask for opinions.

Not to mention negative opinions are really not necessary coming from a moderator.

Hey, i did that

But my mom got a coathanger (It was a Pontiac car) and got it through the door and just hit the LOCK/UNLOCK switch

boom. Very good idea my mom had :P

I would take manual windows over powerwindows anyday..
1) over time powerwindows get slow
2) need battery connected/charged / blah
3) usually slower than manual windows

and probably other things

1. How do you figure the window motors have ANYTHING to do with the locking mechanism ?

2. Generally my battery is hooked up, i dont know about yours

3. They may get slow after a very long time, but it sure beats reaching over the console to roll your pass window down or up.

4. The whole system weighs about 5 lbs more than a non power setup.

The fact still remains that he DID NOT ASK for your opinion as to whether it was a dumb idea or not.

Maybe if you'd made a suggestion or sent him a PM with the reasons why not to do the swap rather than immediately say

it may have been OK, but all you are doing is clogging his thread with about why power windows are better. Chances are he already knows all the pros and cons or power vs. manual anyway.

So please stop this ignorance so the man might actually get some tech advice that will be useful to him. This makes the eighth post in this thread, minus one, his original and that makes seven, five of which have spawned from your post about it being a dumb idea. So that makes approximately 71% of this thread completely . Al Qaeda would be proud of that kind of hi-jacking.

I prefer the power because i like the the fact that i do not have to reach over and roll the passenger side up when it is raining. Not only that why change when you can get replacement motors at autozone for about $35

hey revlimit...

if you do put the manual windows in though, you cant roll it down if you put a roll bar in... the door bar gets in the way.

i donno if you ever plan to put a roll bar in, but its somthing to keep in mind.

Re: Power to manual windows...

thirdgen door shells are cut for both manual & power window regulators. some more info on this topic is avaliable here:

http://www.p71interceptor.com/thirdgen/powerwindows

P.S. I have a spare pair of manual window regulators that i'll sell you cheap if you're interested.

You gave a list of cars that the window motors will fit the 3rd gen. Then may I also assume that those manual regulators will fit a 3rd gen, because I really hate my power windows.

Sorry I'm an idiot, I reread the (very good bye the way) article and see that the motors are interchangeable, not the regulators.

Dont forget, those power window motors weight about 5 lbs apiece so its a good weight savings. Plus new power motors cost upwards of $40.
