is it possible to put the power switch and motor which opens and closes the hatch in a car that never came with one thanks

car did not come with one?? wow never heard that? are you sure that someone didnt weld it togeather..that what they did to mine and i hade to replace the whole thing...

the camaro is a 1985 sport coupe with no power options so my guess was that maybe it was part of a power option or something but there are no wires or evidence of a motor ever being there, also when i bought the car there wasn't even a back manual lock

You can put a manual latch on with a power release silenoid. My 85 SC had no power anything until I found one in the j/y. Its a simple swap, you can use your current manual release too. You just need to get the wiring harness"a long black wire, and a connector that plugs into the unused connector under the center console, and a release switch for the console" The whole thing is a direct bolt in, you shouldn't have to modify anything. I'll attach a pic of what it looks like.

Installing a solenoid hatch releease is a piece of cake. You'd need the one specific to the 1982-85 non-motorized hatch latching unit (a picture of which has already been posted). It would be a much harder job to try and install a motorized pull-down unit, which was standard from 1986-91. Your slam-hatch latch has a completly different attachment that is spot-welded to the body that the latch bolts to than the 1986-91 motorized units used. You COULD cut that out of your car and weld in one from a 1986-91 doner car.
