Interior plastic differences

Well in my search for new interior plastics I have found that they are not all the same.

Now I think most of us know that there are some significant differences in the 1982-84 and 1985-1992 cars interior plastics.

What you may not know is I have uncovered some more that are quite important in my restoration attempts.

The rear plastic piece at the back of the car is different even amongst power pull down equipped cars. Not all of them have the brake light connection. This is ok since I know 85 and 86 don't have the third brake light in the spoler. This isn't a big deal. I knew about that one.

Not all of them though are equipped with the courtesy light manual activation switch holes. Not to much of a problem. There is a pattern on the back that looks like it could be stampped out from the factory. I think I can make this work. I have to cut that part out. The way the switch cover is designed it should hide the non factory cut nicely. However the piece was not as mint as I was led to believe when I bought it on ebay. It might be ok for me since the bad part will get covered up when I install a sub box in the trunk well. And anything is better than the piece that is in my car now. It is really scratched and scuffed. It's also got some of it's mounts cracked.

The rear deck lid plastic. This seems to come in a couple different forms. It would seem that the newer kind is one piece. The older one in my 1987 had a seperate piece that made the brake light connection much cleaner and much easier to install. Once again I made this work.

The rear plastic that goes behind the headliner. It would seem that there are two of these parts out there. No big deal. One is for the cars that have the third brake light in the top of the rear hatch. Since the part came from a 1987 or newer car this wasn't a problem for me. It's just something I noticed.

Finally the rear seat plastic arm rest and trim pieces. Some have seat belt cutouts and some do not. I need the seat belt cutouts. There is no way I could cut this and make it look good.

So basically I have spent alot of money by the time shipping was paid for to have a couple parts that work for me and several that won't. What years were all these revisions made?

Finally anyone need any of these parts that won't work for me. I cleaned them up but they could use some more. They are in very good condition though. The dirty parts would actually be covered by the seat anyway. PM me if you need them.

I did have one more thought about the rear seat plastic trim things. If you delete your rear seats they are ideal. It would give them that factory "never was a seat back here look" since there would be no place for the belts. They would have to be removed most likely to make this work.

I have decided I am going to keep my rear seats. The car just looks empty without them.

Sorry for the long post but I had to bring this up. I would like to know when the changes were made so I can get the right stuff in the future.

If any one has good grey plastics and I mean mint or damn close PM me I am interested. If you need any of these parts PM me I will be glad to sell them. Thanks.
