3 questions, IROC speedo, tire size, and polishing wheels

Do the 85 Iroc speedos use a cable like my 85 Z28 does? I really want the higher speedo, but I don't want to switch over to electric.

ALso, if I were to sand my z28 wheels down and polish them with a compound, then clear coat them when I paint the car, Would they look okay? HAs anyone done this? Got pictures?

Also what size of tire is the widest without any problems can I fit on my back wheels? How wide are these rims?

i can help on the polishin wheels one...
ive heard dont clearcoat, because you if you do...
1) you cant go back and repolish them
2) the clearcoat may fade, crack, or yellow
3) clearcoat is never 100% optical clarity meaning it will make your wheels look worse than just not putting clearcoat on

my suggestion (as well as many other peoples) is to put a coat of caranuba wax on every once in a while, this way you can go back and repolish and then it will look absolutely great

The speedo's are cable driven on 82-89 camaros and in 90 they went to the electric ones.

I'll attach a pic of my 85Z rims my car is a 85 SC not a z. This is a old pic, no center caps or black paint in the triangle parts. Dont put clear coat on the rims. It will peel and turn yellow after a while.
The best thing to put on polished surfaces is http://www.zoops.com/zoopseal.asp its expensive but keeps the shine for a long time with no matienence needed.

what size are the rims? 15x7? 16x8? I went to BFG's website to find out what would fit on my stock 15x7's.

I've got 235/60 r15's on the back and 215/65's on the front. The rear tires aren't all that wide, but they work. A few people suggested these sizes to me, because if if you don't have a lot of power, extremely wide tires will only drag you down, and cause unneccesary resonance. I have an LG4, and my tires work pretty well. Maybe just look find some chart to find out how wide of tires you can fit on 15 by 7's if you wanted to go a lot wider though...

I put 245/60 R15's on my '84 Trans Am. Just had to be careful not to turn the wheel to full lock or there would be a little rubbing.
