my cars plastic rear window has been torn thru for the past few weeks.... ive been doing like the previous owner did and using black duct tape ( UGH! ) to hold it up until i could afford to do somthing about it...

i scrounged around the junkyards today.. (8 total, im TIRED) but i found that a window from a 89 le baron fits PERFECTLY, and it has a rear defroster.....
the only downside will be, i have to release the zipper before the top can fold down...... athough ive already worked out a method that would allow me to pull the zipper off and on as fast as i can pop the rear slide release....

i cant wait to sew it in....

pics and a how to will probly follow.

ok... well thease are the pics i took so far... i WILL make a tech article about it..

keep in mind a few things when you see the following pics:

1. i didnt put the damn duct tape on my window. im the 3rd owner of this car. the first owner took EXCELENT care of it. the 2nd had it for 2 months and ragged it ( ).. they are the ones that let the window get torn out and they used black duct tape to put it in. so the stickys on my car top arnt my fault.

2. im working on the interior. yes i know the rear panels arnt bolted in, and there is crap inside the car. :raz:

3. i took the pics before i washed the window. its clean now and looks like new. i just took a before pic so in the article, i can tell the person not to feel bad if it looks all ****ty... they clean up well.

4. yes my car is wet. i was starting to clean the gunk from the tape off when i decided to take pics...

5. that damn sticker on the window is scrapped off.. and it looks like it was never there.

6. I have no idea why my hand looks so ****ed up in that pic. my hand doesnt even look like that. trust me. i have intimate knowlage of that hand. its just the pic.

when i cut the window, the only tool needed to remove it from the car was a box cutter.. the top can be of any color, you dont want the top part, you need to tear the top back and cut at the part the glass mounts to. thats what all the fabric is around it in the pic.

also, after talking with other vert owners, ive found that GM had diffrent sized rear windows for diffrent cars. in anycase however, im sure you can get this to fit. smaller windowed cars would just need some trimming...

the window as i cut it:

this is the window pocket... its whats going to let the window drop and it catches the water and lets it drain out instead of going inside the car.

id also like to point out that the entire fabric surrounding the window is dark black ( and nice looking too) but it was FILTHY from the junkyard..

a little scrubbing, and that tan/Gray disappeared....

it was like mud coming off..lol.
