I always noticed something "odd" with my passenger front fender. I noticed minor tire rub sometimes, but didn't think much of it. Well, today I had a chance to see a good condition firebird beside mine in the apartment complex, and noticed the problem. The bottom end of the fender near the door is pushed in so far the inner fender guard actually comes near the edge. I am familiar with body work (the driver side of the car got sideswiped) to a certain degree (I know how to use a slide hammer, drilling, filling, etc).

But what kind of structural damage could exist under that fender? What sits under that corner? Could I fix damage like that with a slide hammer?

 

From the sounds of your message saying you see something "odd" with your fender I assume there is no body damage there (big dent etc). Assuming this, I really don't see structural damage being a possibility unless the fender was replaced by a previous owner who wacked it up (still unlikely cuz the door would show evidence too. Having said this, those fenders are only held on by one bolt down there and are bolted to a little flange of metal. There is a good chance that this flange is either bent in allowing the fender to be pulled in or it is rotting, also allowing it to move in.

Just peek under the car right infront of the door and you will see the flange I am talking about and the one big bolt.
