working with fiberglass
after looking around through some threads, visiting some websites and stuff i'd like to know.....how hard is it to make stuff with fiberglass?
What i'm thinking of, more specifcly, is a custom dash. That K1 dash thread a few posts down kinda gave me the idea of making a custom dash....true it would most likely just slip overthe origional one, but i dunno...maybe not. I like the looks of that K1 dash, some parts i would change, some i would leave. How hard would it be to do that? what sorta tools and stuff would i need?

There are some serious health concerns using glass, so if you work with it use a lot of ventilation and a respirator. The mek that is used to "kick" the resin is also highly flammable. If you breathe the stuf fit stays in your lungs forever. Other than that, it's great to work with! Really, you can make a lot of stuff out of it, but you need to practice with it first. If you're making a one off part, try to buy one first, it's actually cheaper in the long run. If you do something that is custom, then expect it to be heavier than you thought and it will probably take several attempts. Find a place that sells structural glass and resins (like a boat supplier) and talk to the rep. These places also sell carbon fiber and kevlar, and you can make some really trick stuff. But as far as that dash pad, just buy a cover for about $75.00 and be done with it. It's a lot less aggravation.

but the thing is, i dont want just a cover....i want something that will set the car apart from every other third gen out there. dont like the very boxy style of the dash, but dont want the complication of doing a 4th gen swap....know what i mean? i know doing a 4th gen swap would be easier but i'd rather have something truely unique.....
